Adeline's Reign

I can't love

Adeline never thought the day would come. She hasn't loved someone since her love Dylan got his heart ripped out of his chest from her father on their wedding day and so the only thing she ever dressed up was for a performance. She walked in to Torchwood and she heard Owen whistle. " What's got you dressed up?" He asked and Adeline almost laughed at his face. " Well if you must know I've got a performance tonight." Adeline said with a smile. " Performance?" He asked and Adeline laughed realizing he didn't do any reserch on the name she had used when they first met. " You mean you haven't heard of the singer Adeliade?" She grinned and Owens eyes widened. " There is no way you're her." He shouted in disbelief and she just smirked before singing the chorus most famous song Mystery Girl. " Oh who's that girl who seems to have one more surprise. The girl that no one knows. Who hides her face every time you get near. Oh who's that girl who seems to be the Mystery Girl." Adeline sang and she saw the others come into the room stopping immeditley. " Woah, you are her." Owen gaped. " What did you think I stopped aliens for a living? Anyways I've got a concert to go to." She grabbed her car keys before turning to Jack who was just smiling at her. " If you need me call my number and I will leave. If not please don't I won't be gone longer than a hour." Adeline said and with that she left. When she got to the stage people were already waiting and she smiled. The stage was her home and so she sang. The crowds cheered and Adeline realized that even if she loved to sing she would never truly belong on Earth or anywhere. When she was done with her concert she went back to Torchwood. " What did I miss?" She asked Ianto. " We've got visitors that flew out of the rift." Ianto told her and she sighed knowing what they would ask. She walked in and saw a younger woman, an older man, and a young girl in the building. " And there's Adeline, Adeline meet Diane Holmes, Emma Cowell, and John Ellis." Jack interduced and she gasped recognizing the woman. " Diane?" She said shocked. " You two know each other?" Jack asked surprised. " Yeah I was her flight instructor until she went missing." Adeline said hugging the woman. " How do you still look so young if this is 50 years into the future, and are you wearing a dress?!" She asked in surprise. " Yes Diane I'm a singer now." Adeline laughed. " What were you before?" Owen asked interested. " I was in the army before I was a singer." Adeline shrugged. " What unit?" Jack asked and she knew he was asking if they were in the same. " 33. Either way
I was the Captain."Adeline smiled at him. " I didn't really take you as the gun type." Jack said with a raised eyebrow." Never said I used a gun did I?" She smirked. " You never answered my question Adeline." Diane pointed out and Adeline sighed. " I'm an Alien Diane, my body changes every time I die and my body dosn't physically age." Adeline told her with a sigh. " Oh, you know had you told me this yesterday I never would of believed you. " Diane laughed. Adeline nodded before leaving the room. For the next couple of days she avoided being around the people from the past and thankfully no one had really noticed. That was until the third day when Jack came to see her.
" Adeline is there a reason you're avoiding us all?" Jack asked his voice seemed concerned. "I'm not avoiding all of you." Adeline told him. " Really then what is it." Jack asked. " It's Owen, as soon as a new woman walks in here he flirts up a storm. I'm jealous and I don't know how else to deal with it." Adeline announced frustrated. " Jealous? Jealous of what?" Jack asked completely baffled.
" That he can have that, I can't love anyone or have a realtionship like he can and it makes me upset." Adeline explained and though she was upset she was determined not to show it to him. " Why not Adeline, you are a beautiful woman who is amazingly talented. Just because your an Alien dosn't mean that you can't love someone." Jack brought up and as much as Adeline appreciated the compliments he wasn't getting the point. " Jack I can't love anyone even as a friend, because anyone who gets close is killed by my father." Adeline sighed. " Oh well maybe we can go defeat him together I mean how powerful can your dad be." Jack offered and Adeline laughed. " You have got to be joking with me Jack my father would kill you dead in less then a minute and he would injury me enough to capture me in under 5 minutes. Defeating my father is out of the option." Adeline said wipping her eyes from laughing so hard. " Well is there some other option to get rid of your father." Jack asked . " Nope not really." Adeline said bluntly hoping he would drop it. " Oh so there is something." Jack said with a big grin.
" Its not happening, the last time someone tried they ended up with their heart ripped out of their chest." Adeline sobbed not even making an effort to conceal how upset she was over Dylan her most recent boyfriends death. " Oh Adeline I'm so sorry." Jack comforted wrapping her into a hug. " Oh am I interrupting something?" A voice said and they stopped and she saw Diane. " John's killed himself, Emma's moved to N Y, and I wanted to ask if you could send me back." She asked her voice told Adeline that she was sorry for interrupting her moment." Yes of course I will just give me a moment." Adeline said drying the tears on her face. " You don't have to do this right now Adeline." Jack told her. " Yes I do, Thank you for talking with me Jack, but it's best you forget everything you've learned about me." Adeline warned him and with that she left to go send Diane back.
