̶ ̶ x. SHIPWRECKED.

i didn't mean to drown you in the ocean of what could've been. us, our feet sunk into the warm, sun kissed sand, our hands intertwined. you smiled at me; it felt as if my heart had melted, spilling out of the spaces between your fingers. we rushed into the water too quickly, forgetting how to swim. it was a cold, bitter night, one that caused permanent, chilled bumps on my arms.

the worst of it all is that i didn't notice you slipping from my grip, drifting out far away from the land we once sat upon. you didn't scream, you didn't ask for help, you just allowed the waves to wash away the fire we had set up so incredibly bright.

sunsets on the beach where we use to make love are no longer as breathtaking as they used to be.
