Gunsan

Jerome turned and stared at Jun Ho, "I'm going to pee."

"Again?"

The man's eyes widened, "what, do I have to justify my bladder, inspector Kang?"

"Tchhit."

"Yeah, yeah, it's freezing. We've been here for the last three days. Let me pee."

Jun Ho waved him away and carried on looking out. He and Jerome had been doing a stakeout no one was aware of for the last few days. The chief intendant was happy with Jun Ho's suggestion of keeping Jerome out of office. Everyone thought Jun Ho would spend the time taking Jerome sightseeing.

The nosy IBOCT agent made the Korean Police uncomfortable, especially since he was in the front row seat to witness their failures to catch the NETIZEN investigators. Jun Ho hoped they would gather enough proof to arrest Marc Joubert. Their informant told them Marc never came to the factory except for compound shipments, which he checked himself.

Luckily for them, they benefited from what Jerome called a Mary Sue Boomerang effect, for they were about to witness one of Marc Joubert's transactions and compound checks on the Gunsan docks. If that was not a lucky coincidence, Jerome didn't know what it was.

The tip from their informant was accurate. Marc was on time; he wore sunglasses but remained recognizable in the photos.

They already had photos of the factory and the workers from the days before, thanks to one of Jerome's remote control mini-drones. Jerome sent the drone on a bit of expedition in the factory's air conditioning and sewer systems.

Unlike most drug factories, the NB factory resembled a lab. There were very few people one could qualify as illegal workers.

Jun Ho and Jerome imagined most were probably med students. They wore white blouses, laughed, joked about, and listened to hip-hop music while making the lethal drug.

"So, what have you got?" Jerome asked as he took place next to Jun Ho.

"I've got clear shots, but since we can't see the goods, I'm not sure they're useful."

"It will," Jerome said as he pointed at what looked like a dot in the sky from their position.

"Another drone?"

"Yep, and its overhead shots are crystal clear."

It was weird and rare for people to look above their heads, Jun Ho thought. At the same time, someone like Marc Joubert, who believed in being above the law, had no reason to be on the lookout. The fact he was there as usual in broad daylight despite the suspicions weighing against him proved precisely that.

Jun Ho's phone vibrated. He pulled it out to see the caller; the number was one of a prison. He let the call go to voicemail; he would listen later. For now, all that mattered was getting the maximum of incriminating and irrefutable proof.

Jun Ho noted another person signed and stamped the shipment papers; he made sure to get a clear shot of the man too.

An hour later, Marc was gone, the two cops packed up and drove back to Seoul. The three days were rough; both men dreamt of finding the comfort of a real bed.

While Jerome drove, Jun Ho listened to the message:

"Inspector Kang, I just wanted to thank you for having me change rooms and wings. I feel much at ease in the psychiatric ward; as a reward, I'll let you in on a little info, which I hope you will use to avenge my beloved Lee Hyun Gu and save yourself by the same occasion.

"That Han Songi was no saint; she was the worst of bitches; she had a lover who I've heard you know well. The brat was pregnant with his child, and since she killed herself, no one asked for an autopsy, but I can assure you, the baby she carried was a few months old.

"I hope you will not make a mistake of intertwining yourself further with this despicable creature. If you want to know the truth and nothing but the truth, come and meet me today, I'm in the mood for a little chit-chat. Don't keep me waiting, inspector, hurry."

The message ended there.

"Jerome."

"What?"

"Take the next exit."

"Why?

"We're going to the state prison."

Seoul, Dunkin Donuts

There were so many blind spots, despite what she had found out. Soo Yeon couldn't put the finger on why her family found itself caught up in this mess.

Inspector Gwan's confession confirmed it was a setup, but why?

Why would someone do this to them?

Something still ticked Soo Yeon off in the corner of her mind.

The photos in chairman Kyeong with senator Kang still roamed in Soo Yeon's memory. With all the events, she had not found the right moment to question Min Ha. As they sat in the quiet Dunkin Donuts, Soo Yeon started her subtle questioning.

"Min Ha, I noticed the Kang's heir at your party. Do you know him?"

"Waa, Soo Yeon-a, you just seduced 화장=hwajang Kim Su Jung, and you are already looking for another. I didn't know you were that type of girl," Min Ha teased.

"Don't be silly; I just wanted to know, forget it."

Min Ha was a talkative girl. It was rare to have long conversations with Soo Yeon, who was a yes-or-no interlocutor. Wanting to keep the momentum going, Min Ha spoke.

"Actually, my father was senator Kang Baek Hyun's hoobae. They went to college together with Director Hong and former Satellite chairman Seo.

Soo Yeon knew her father had met the Kang and the Hong family at school, but she had never heard of the Kyeong.
