MOUSE TRAP

Kwon Jin could tell by the way she spoke and held herself Soo Yeon was no a fake. The man distilled she was raised in a family who observed etiquette.

This made things more challenging; he was sure she would not yield to a shower of gifts or a little trip on Jeju island.

They arrived in front of GA arts, and the driver came to open the door for Soo Yeon, "thank you, Deputy Director Hong."

"Eh, Park Soo Yeon Ssi, you study drama right, do you have agency or an agent?"

"No."

"I have a few friends in the field. I could introduce you to them, and there's an upcoming project on SBSー."

As Kwon Jin spoke, Soo Yeon debated whether she should carry on with the amazed and bewildered play or put on the cold blasé act.

"Park Soo Yeon ssi?" Kwon said as he tried to grasp her attention.

"Oh, my mother isn't here. I can't go to those kinds of meetings without my mother's authorization.

Soo Yeon's answer left the man dumbstruck he expected her to shower him with thank you's and embrace the opportunity like any young lady who wished to become the next hot actress.

"Ah, kuré," Kwon Jin returned.

"Then, goodbye."

"Wait, you have my name card if ever you change your mind."

"Yes, thank you," Soo Yeon said, bowing before taking a leave.

Kwon Jin smirked as he watched her walk away. The girl was self-aware, giving him both sweet and sour answers during the ride; the man was impressed. Even women his age were sometimes too intimidated to speak; it took his wife years before becoming the viper tongue he knew. Park Soo Yeon was a kitten with claws, and Kwon Jin liked it.

Breaking her would be pure bliss.

Seoul, Banpo-Dong

Kwon Jin was happy to be finished with the pompous opening ceremony of GA's medical facilities. Now he faced another of the day's challenges.

"Jun Ho, here is the file you wanted; you must wait a little more to have Seo Kwan Gi's one; it's a little more complicated."

"Thank you, Kwon Jin."

"You are welcome; I'm glad you and Ga Eun have come to an arrangement."

"Yes, we decided yesterday."

"That's great news. Let me know if you need any help with anything or if I can put in a word for you somewhere. It bothers me a little to know my brother-in-law is playing cops and robbers. I wouldn't want my sister to be a widow."

"I'll try to stay alive," Jun Ho said, smiling timidly. Kwon Jin's subtle intimidations made him uncomfortable. But he had to play along and holding Hye Mi's file in his hands. He estimated it was the proper conduct to have.

"Thank you again for the file. I really appreciate it."

"It's nothing; I have to go. See you next week for the family meal it will be at Hyatt Park. Oh, and your father will be there to officialize your engagement. Nothing fancy, just keeping it simple," said Kwon Jin as he got in his car, leaving Jun Ho frustrated as he noted how Kwon Jin's invitation to the Hong family meal sounded like a summoning.

What angered Jun Ho more was how things seemed planned without his consent, making him feel like a pawn on a chessboard.

Seoul, Gangnam Police Station

Once back in his office, Jun Ho found an empty interrogation room and sat to run through Hye Mi's file. The first thing which struck him was her photo, which didn't resemble her in any way.

What followed shocked him even more; the file was full of complaints either deposited by Hye Mi or by shopkeepers, bus drivers, and fellow students. Every compliant enraged him or filled him with remorse for not having been there.

One caught his eye more than the others. Seo Hye Mi filed one for attempted rape. It was registered, and the suspects were formally identified, yet it was empty. Nothing happened; he found no preliminary interrogation nothing. No one investigated or wondered what happened to the victim. And since she was dead, there would be nothing. The inspector understood why the girl preferred disappearing.

Who would want to live with such a past?

After running through the file, Jun Ho almost understood Soo Yeon's attachment to Black Moja. Like Ga Eun said, if the website existed then, Hye Mi's case was the kind NETIZEN would defend.

The website stood up for the weak and the ignored; it forced by the chamber the prosecutors to take action. Its lobby seemed almost lawful; Jun Ho felt weak. He hated the idea of knowing himself incapable of making a change. He grasped his hands behind his head, thinking about how Hye Mi had become Park Soo Yeon.

Now things made sense. Hye Mi helped Jared, who probably gave her a new identity. Hye Mi was simply paying back. Jun Ho felt relieved; it was apparent she was a victim. There was no way; she would voluntarily join this margin group of lobbyists like NETIZEN.

안녕하세요 여러분,

This chapter is a little particular; it's the first confrontation between Soo Yeon and Kwon Jin. I called it MOuSe TRap in reference to the game both Kwon and Soo Yeon are playing.

And also, because Park Hae Jin, the actor I'm using to incarnate Kwon Jin, was the MC of Cheese in the Trap, the drama, so I mixed up the title here.

Isn't uri Jun Ho delusional? He really doesn't want to face the facts. He refuses to accept the possibility that Soo Yeon is doing it with her own free will. He makes me think of parents who don't want to recognize their children's faults. I find him a little annoying on that point, but he was that way before I knew it became one of his traits.
