"Where is she?"

"Where is who?" the desk lady asks lazily.

"Alex!"

"Alex who?"

"ALEXANDRA MARSH! WHERE IS SHE?!"

She stares at me for a second and then looks down at her computer screen.

"No one's allowed to see her right now," she says.

"Does it look like I care? What fucking room is she in?"

"No one's allowed-"

"-to see her, I got it. NOW YOU NEED TO GET THAT I DON'T GIVE A SHIT. WHAT ROOM IS SHE?"

She rolls her eyes and clicks on her stupid little mouse for like an hour.

"Hurry up!" I yell.

"Please don't yell at me."

"Would you rather me kill you? Then no one could yell at you."

"She's in room five eighty."

"Which way is that?"

She points to the right and I run down the hall.

577..

578..

579..

I hope she's ok.

That makes two of us.

580.

My breathing increases and my heart beat quickens.

My hand fiddles with the door handle and I slowly push the door open.

And then a series of sobs escape from my mouth. Alex..or Alex's unconscious body lays in the hospital bed. She has a cut above her left eye, a cut across her right cheek, a bruise on her chin, and her left hand is in a cast.

My hand covers my mouth as more and more tears stream down my face.

The nurse that's helping her looks over at me. "No one's allowed in here right now, I'm sorry."

I say nothing, just look at my Marshmallow's sad, lifeless looking body.

"..miss?" the nurse asks.

I look at her. "What?"

"Wait, are you Cooper?"

I say nothing, but my eyes find their way back to Alex.

"Miss."

"What?"

"Are you Cooper?"

"..yes."

"..ohh, dear," she says. "I'm so sorry," she says, setting a hand on my arm.

I nod. "..how is she?" I choke out.

"She's..she's alive."

More sobs. "..wh- what happened?" I manage to muffle out.

"..we got reports that a drunk driver ran a red light and slammed into her."

"..this is not actually happening."

"I'm so sorry, sweetie."

"..is she gonna be ok?"

"It's..it's too early to tell."

I choke out even more sobs, feeling my heart start to pound and my hands start getting sweaty and my stomach start to bubble and my mind start to race and my soul start to ache. "Gosh, I am such an idiot! I was screaming at her earlier for a bunch of random nonsense, and now she.."

"It's ok," Valerie says, rubbing my arm.

More sobs. "I love her so much," I say quietly.

She nods, and I think I see tears well up in her own eyes.

I fucking hate my life.

"Cooper."

I slowly sit up. There stands my mom and dad, along with Dana and Will.

"..hi," I say, shifting in the lobby hospital chair.

"Have you seen her, they won't let us see her," Will paces.

"Yeah..I..I did last night. She's..she's alive," I repeat Valerie's words.

"..that's all?!" Dana yells.

"That's all I was told," I say, feeling tears well up in my eyes. I look at mom and dad. "Why are you guys here?"

"..we know how much Alex means to you..and Kelsey though it would be smart."

"Where is she then?" I ask.

"She had a prior engagement," mom says.

"Ok.." I sigh. "I'm gonna go see her," I say, standing. I pull off my shoes and set them in my chair, walking down the hall Alex's room is in. Dana and Will follow behind me.

I open the door, and there stands Valerie and a male doctor.

"Heyy, Cooper," Valerie says.

"Hi."

"How you feelin'?"

I shrug, walking in and leaning against the counter. "Alrigh-"

Dana's sobs cut me off.

"Who did this to my daughter?" Dana asks.

"You all are Alex's parents?" the guy asks.

"Yes, who did this?" Dana asks again.

"..we don't know yet."

I sigh, glancing at Alex. I quickly look away, trying not to cry.

"Why don't you know?" Will shouts.

"May I speak to you all in the hall?" he asks.

"Yes," Will says as the three of them go into the hall.

"Anything new?" I ask Valerie.

"Yeah, she's not in a coma..so that's good."

"Then why hasn't she woken up?"

"The collision was head on. She isn't in a coma, but she will be out for awhile."

I sigh, looking at her. I walk over to the bed and sit.

"She looks so pale," I say, stroking her face.

Nothing but silence fills the room.

"What if she doesn't make it?" I ask after about five minutes.

Valerie sighs and sits down beside me in a chair. "That's the thing about being a nurse. The loved ones of patients are always asking that exact same question. You never actually know. Things could go wrong, things could go right. As cliché as it sounds, you just have to hope for the best..and for your sake, I'm gonna hope really hard."

"Thank you," I say.

She slightly smiles. "It's ok. I can see how much you love her, just by the way you look at her. You all must have had a pretty good relationship, huh?"

I nod slowly. From what the eyes can see.

She nods too. "I'm gonna go get a snack. Want anything?"

I shake my head.

She stands and walks outta the room, leaving me alone with Alex.

I begin to sob.
