"So..not to sound rude but..why are you in my room?" she asks.

My Alex doesn't care about sounding rude.

"..I was lost," I sniff. "Found my way in here."

She laughs. "What a great way to meet someone."

I nod, wiping my eyes.

"You have pretty eyes," she says to me.

"..yeah?"

She nods. "Yeah, they're really brown..have you ever considered dying your hair blonde? It'd be really pretty that way, not that you're not pretty now. You are..pretty, I mean."

I slightly laugh at that, more like a laugh cry sorta thing. "Thank you..and I actually..used to be a blonde."

"I bet you were gorgeous."

"Thank you," I say. This is simultaneously the cutest and most heartbreaking moment of my life.

"..sorry if that was awkward, I just like blondes with brown eyes..I guess."

I know.

"I like dark hair," I say quietly.

"I have dark hair."

"Weird."

"Yeah."

I hear the door open. I look over and there stands Emma and Harlie.

"Alex?" Harlie smiles.

"..yes?"

"Alex!" Emma yells.

"Who are-" Alex starts.

"Guys, no, wait!" I sniff. "We need to talk outside."

"While Alex is sitting right there? Fuck no!" Harle smiles again.

"Just c'mon," I sigh, pulling them outside.

"Whaaattt?" Emma impatiently asks, a look of relief on her face.

"Alex lost her memory, she doesn't know who we are," I say, getting straight to the point.

Emma's expression fades and Harlie looks at me. "..what?" they say in unison.

"She doesn't remember anything."

A pause.

"..that's not true," Harlie says.

I say nothing.

"Cooper, tell us you're joking," Emma says.

"Why would I fucking joke about her not remembering who I am? Does that make any fucking sense?" I groan. "She asked me who I fucking was earlier!" I shout, anger building inside me. "All the shit her and I went through, for this! For her to not remember what we fucking have and most likely go out and find someone else.." I shake my head. "I'm done."

"What do you mean you're done?" Harlie asks.

"What does done usually mean, Harlie?" I ask, looking at her.

Emma's crying and Harlie's about to cry and I'm done.

I turn and walk inside, grabbing my phone.

"Where are you going?" Alex asks, sitting criss-cross apple sauce on the bed. She's now wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt. I love her so much.

"I gotta go."

"Where?"

"Out of here."

"No, stay."

"Why?"

"I like talking to you, you make my arm hurt less," she slightly smiles.

I stare at her broken arm.

"..Cooper?" she asks.

I look up. "What?"

"You were staring at me."

"Sorry," I say, slowly sitting down on the end of her bed. "..when do you think they'll let you out of here?"

She shrugs. "I'm not sure, they don't tell me anything."

I love you.

"Ohh. That sucks..where do you think you'll stay..when they let you out?"

She shurgs again. "Haven't thought about it."

"..ohh."

You're gonna stay with me.

"Yeah. I like your necklace," she says, fiddling with the silver necklace around my neck. A single diamond charm hangs on it. Alex randomly gave it to me one day when we were eighteen.

"Thank you..it means the world to me."

"Must have cost a fortune."

"Well, someone gave it to me..but I bet it did."

"Who?"

"..my girlfriend."

"You..have a girlfriend?"

"..not anymore, no," I say, my voice cracking.

"What happened?"

"..she forgot what we had together."

Literally.

"I'm sorry."

"Yeah, so am I," I say as Harlie and Emma come back in the room.

"Hi," Alex says, glancing at them, then at me.

"..hi, Alex," Harlie says.

"Who's that?" Alex asks.

"Yo-"

"Alexandra. She meant..Alexandra," I sigh.

"Of course," Alex says. "Nice to meet you.."

"Harlie," Harlie says quietly.

"That's a pretty name," Alex smiles at her.

"Thank you," she says, wiping her eyes.

"..why is everyone so sad?" Alex asks.

"Allergies," I say. "Sorry."

"It's ok," Alex says, wiping some tears off my cheek with her thumb. I sniff as Alex looks over at Emma. "Who's that?"

"That's Emma."

"Is she your friend?"

I shrug. "More like a sister."

"Well, is she-"

The door opens, and in walks Valerie.

"Ohh..full house," Valerie says.

"Hi, Valerie," I say.

She smiles at me, setting her clipboard down. "Heyy, Cooper. Heyy, Harlie, Emma."

Harlie waves, and Emma simply walks over to Harlie, who kisses her cheek as they walk outta the room.

"Ok, Alexandraa..we have to run some more tests to make sure you're in tip-top shape."

"Ok..can Cooper stay?"

Valerie smiles. "She sure can."

I wipe my nose with my shirt sleeve. "Are you sure you're ok?" Alex asks, scooting a little closer to me, and looking at me with those gray eyes.

No.

"Yeah."
