Fisher of Fools

8 1 0

We wrapped these dreams
around the broken arms
of an elm in shade
and starlight beams

And watched our better
and distant milky ways
Gather our fortunes
and quietly leave

Like a peddler selling tonic
and moving from town to town
We let our passion buy in quick
without first settling down

By the time we understood
the dilemma of life, it was too late
The fisher of fools cast his line
and we had taken the bait
