Such as This

Once I wrote so wistfully
of all the world and all I see
until the dark showed up in me
and ripped my inner spirit free

Yet that torment inked in tears
and wrapped up in my biased fears
set my journey for many years
spinning all my inner gears

The spear of destiny; double edged
was a terror in my head
and in the night upon my bed
carved the script of all my dread

Then came light like a sword
to shed upon my open sores
and show my heart another course
and a way beyond all my wars

The shadow song is what I sing
Joy and pain; what life must bring
All the color in love's spring
Here this feast and offering

For none can truly find their bliss
without the world the way it is
If all was easy and without risk
Who could write such as this?
