Well Past Time

13 3 4

Suppose you some simpleton
spoke at some symposium
and whispered words
of unwise idioms

that spread
an ill informed axiom
which soon became the maxim
and all the rage and fashion

beating with their tongues lashing
bleating out their trashing
of society's better rationale
until that old hat sense
was no longer looked on well

and heads began to swell
as the statues fell
and the rain rose up
and sunbeams too
and right was wrong
and red was blue
and all day long 'twas quite the zoo

but really that can't happen here
in the land of common sense
for we are far superior
ladies and gents

We give not an ear
to idle gossip
or tales of grandeur
We have no reason to fear
for our posterity ever after

So set the tables of ignorance
in the home of blindness and bliss
Go on reading your catalogs
of who left who and who had a tryst

Dance the drunkards waltz
across a forgotten floor
Never mind its well past time
to take a look outside your door
