Keeping score
in subtle beats
A melody plays
dark and deep
While in the corners
and down the stairs
Shadows creep
everywhere
Eyes unseen
always watching
Formless beings
always talking
Restless phantoms
never slumber
finding nothing
for their comfort
Come to call
in the night
at the most
inconvenient time
And we toss
on uneasy beds
trying to chase them
from our heads
If dreams deliver us
to better rooms
hopefully we'll be
asleep real soon
