Chapter 4 : Accident

Doncaster

The car had barely stopped when Louis opened the door. After he paid the uber driver, he rushed to the information counter inside the hospital. He'd been in that hospital enough times to know exactly where to go.

"Mark Tomlinson?" He gasped to the nurse there. After checking on some files, the nurse asked an attendant to help directed him, and soon, he was standing outside his father's room. After the attendant told him he can enter, he took a deep breath and tightened his cardigan around his body before he opened the door.

"Dad," He sighed, seeing his father alive and in one piece.

Mark blinked over at him. It was clear that he looked slightly dizzy. "Lou?" He slurred, reaching an IV covered hand out. Louis rushed over to take it.

"What happened?" He asked, squeezing his father's hand.

Mark closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the pillows.

That's when he heard someone cleared their throat and he nearly jumped from his seat beside the bed.

"May I introduce myself? My name is Des Styles, your father's employer," he smiled warmly while offering a handshake.

Louis didn't noticed there's someone else in the room maybe because he's been focusing on his father.

Louis. Louis Tomlinson." He stood up before he shook that man's hand and smiled politely.

Louis looked at that middle-aged man. He's maybe 3 or 4 years older than his father. He seems like a wise and kind man with a rather large build and salt and pepper hair. He's cladded in a full grey suit with a crisp white button up.

"And that is my assistant, Paul." He motioned behind Louis shoulder. That's when he noticed that there's another man standing near the room's window. The bulky man in a black suit nodded his head politely and Louis nods his head in reply.

He diverted his attention towards Des who's been staring at him attentively all this time, "May I ask you what happened to my father?" He asked politely.

"Before that I want to apologize on my behalf for what had happened to your father--" he explained before being interrupted by Mark, "Sir, it's not your fault. If anything happened to you--"

Des cut him, "No Mark, just let me apologize to your son. If anything happened to you, what I'm going to tell to your children?" Des said.

"Look Louis, this evening I came to my company's branch here in Doncaster for monthly supervision. Your father as a safety supervisor has guided me on a tour about the factory operation. When we were talking on a temporary platform near the machine, one of the scaffoldings has broken. When the platform started to shake your father has pulled me towards him before I fell on top of him and he hit his head on the floor. When we checked on him, he has been unconscious. That's why I brought him here." Des explained.

Louis doesn't know what to say. That's typical of his father to put others before himself. But most importantly his father is safe without a major injury.

"I'm just glad that nothing serious happened to my father and you. About the incident, it bounds to happen anytime or anyplace. And my father won't be happy if you keep blaming yourself. It's okay Sir and there's nothing to apologize for. And thank you for brought my father here." Louis smiled softly.

Des smiled relieved, his frown turned into a soft smile. "Thank you Louis and Mark. Both of you are really a kind people. I don't know how to repay your kindness and I apologize once again. I'll promised I'll help your family with anything. Just ask me for." Des said amazed with Louis wisdom and maturity.

"Thank you for your kindness Sir," Mark said before diverting his attention towards Louis, " What about your sisters Lou?" He asked worriedly.

"Oh, they are at home safely. I just told Lottie and Fizzy about you and they want to come with me but I asked them not to worry and I'll call if anything bad happened. So they are taking care of the twins right now." Louis explained.

"I'm glad. Thank you Lou," Mark said before squeezing his hand.

"It's okay Dad." Louis kissed his father's forehead softly unaware of someone eyes monitoring their interaction with interest.

The doctor that attends his father told them that Mark can go home that night. They just waited for the IV drip to finish. Doctor James said that nothing serious happened to his father, he fainted because he's been exhausted because of lack of rest and liquid in his body. That's why Doctor James advised his father to take a leave from work for at least two days and make sure to drinks enough water to keep hydrated.

The doesn't have to pay for the treatment fee because it's under company's responsibility. Des even gave a one week leave with pays going on. Des tried to give Mark and Louis a cheque as his sincere appreciation but they refused to take it. Mark had to consent but he insisted to take them home. Louis agreed thinking of his father condition.

They finally arrived at their apartment complex after a 10 minutes drive from the hospital to their home in the comfortable Mercedes. Louis just kept quiet to himself, doesn't want to interrupt his father and Des conversations but occasionally answering Des's questions towards him.

"Thank you Sir. You don't need to escort us to our home. You must have another important business to do." Mark said to Des after he insisted to escort them to their front door.

"It's not a problem. I'm just going back to hotel and gives a few calls to my family." Des smiled.

Louis smiled, " We would like to invite you into our home but seems like it's nearly--"

"Oh, it's fine. Your father need to rest and follow the doctor's advises. I'll pay a visit tomorrow morning before I'm going back to London." He explained.

"If you said so. Have a good night Sir." Mark said.

"Good night too and I'm going to excuse myself." Des smiled before taking an elevator to go back down to his car.

Louis entered the house with his father ready to face his sisters questions. And if Louis have left an amazing impressions towards Des Styles that night no one have to know.
