SHAUN’S POV
I rushed inside and flew onto the couch of mine and Brooke’s place. I had to be back before she was. I was actually surprised she wasn’t here yet. I had spent the whole afternoon buying baby stuff, which I honestly have no idea about. I just guessed the most expensive junk is the best. I dunno, I dunno! I’m leaving it all at the store for now because I wanna see her surprised when it’s all put together. Another thing I have no idea about. I can barely use a hammer. Geez, she sure chose a manly guy when she picked me.
I’m hoping all this will make her forgive me and show her I am committed to her and our baby. Fuck, it’s scary though. I’m gonna be a dad? I know nothing about kids. My youngest brother is only seven years younger than me. I don’t even remember when he was a baby really. Brooke doesn’t know much about being a mum either, her only sister is only two years younger than her. We’ve never had any experience with kids. Never babysat, nothing. We’re gonna be horrible at this, but I just hope we can be horrible at it together.
Just then I heard Brooke at the door calling out a thank you for the ride. God, please don’t make her too scared to be around me again. The door opened and she stepped inside.
“Everything’s good with the baby?” I questioned and she jumped.
“Geez, Shaun, you scared me,” she said startled by my presence.
“Sorry,” I got up and walked over to her, “so, everything good with the baby and you?”
“Yep, we’re fine,” she replied trying not to make eye contact with me.
“Brooke, you don’t have to be scared,” I assured her, “I’m not gonna touch ya.”
She glanced at me for a second, smirked then stepped past me and plonked onto the couch.
I hesitantly sat next to her.
“So, um, can I get you anything?” I asked looking at her, she looked exhausted.
“Nah, I’m fine...” she answered slowly dozing off.
“Pretty tired, huh?” I laughed.
“Nope, just resting my eyes,” she lied.
It was cute; it was kinda like when we first started dating. She would always start falling asleep on me when we were on the couch watching a movie. The she’d lie and just say she was resting her eyes because she didn’t wanna leave me.
“You should go to bed,” I instructed, “it’ll be more comfortable to sleep there, for you and bub.”
“I’m too tired to move,” she said beginning to fall asleep.
I laughed and put my arms under her back and legs picking her up; I think I startled her.
“What are you doing?” she questioned me suddenly becoming alert that I was touching her.
“Taking you to bed, silly,” I answered walking up the stairs to our bedroom.
The look on her face said to me that she was terrified and I understood she didn’t want me in there.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be taking the couch,” I reassured her.
She seemed more relaxed then and started dozing off again in my arms. I smiled; this certainly won’t be fun to do in eight months or so. I reached our bedroom and gently placed her on our bed and put the covers over her. She was totally knocked out now.
“Night beautiful,” I kissed her forehead, “take care of our little rockstar.”
I swear I saw her smile in her sleep. I switched the light off and headed back downstairs.
I’m gonna make sure our kid has a mum and dad by the time it comes into the world.
