Bruises

Millie's POV:

Today felt like a regular Thursday. I was heavily awaiting the weekend. Grace walked with me through the halls with a comfortable silence. Grace has gotten better, we have talked and we are really good friends now. She still feels guilty for liking Gaten but the guilds has dimmed down a little bit.

We arrived at Ms. Dyer's classroom and I sat beside Finn, I hadn't seen him today so I smiled at him. "Hey Finn!" I greeted with a wide smile. He didn't look at me. He kept his face turned and down. I furrowed my eyebrows and poked his shoulder. "Finn?"

"Millie Brown, please pay attention." Ms. Dyer told me. I snapped my head towards her catching her stern glance. Ms. Dyer is always calling me out. I could hear Finn sigh and continue to look down. He wore a jean jacket with black pants and a blue baseball hat. I wanted to ask what was wrong but I knew Ms. Dyer's eyes were glued to me. I kept my eyes on her but softly whispered:

"Finn, are you okay?" I could see from the corner of my eye his head snap to me.

"I'm fine." He growled. That surprised me so I couldn't help but look at him. With his face fully turned toward me I saw what I really wish I hadn't. His cheek was... scarred. It had a big purple bruise among his cheekbone. I gasped and placed my hand on his bruised cheek.

"Finn... what happened?" I whispered urgently. He sighed turning away from me and pulling the cap more down as if it could go farther. "Meet me in the hall in five minutes."

---

I tapped my foot impatiently until I saw Finn approach from behind Ms. Dyer's door. I grabbed his hand and pulled him in the janitors closet. I closed the door and flipped on the switch immediately going into care mode. "What happened, Finn?" I asked with concern. His eye contact failed as he looked down in shame.

"It's nothing." He mumbled which made me irritated. I furrowed my eyebrows and placed my hand on his cheek again stepping closer slightly.

"That is not nothing." I stated boldly. His dark eyes met mine.

"I got elbowed in the face in gym, okay? It's nothing!" He exclaimed angrily. I stepped back defensively with hurt circling my eyes.

"Finn..."

"Millie it's nothing!" He almost shouted, the rage equal enough to be a shout. I flinched and made sure I looked hurt because I was. Just because I was concerned he had the right to yell at me?

He stormed out of the closet leaving me wide eyed and bewildered. What just happened? Why was Finn so mad? What happened to his cheek? That couldn't be from an elbow something was... off. And I would find out what!

Finn didn't sit with us at lunch. I didn't know what his problem was. Caleb told me Finn hadn't talked to him at all today even in the car. What if Finn didn't come to lunch because of me?

I decided to solve the case so I didn't eat any lunch and looked around the school campus. I know he didn't leave because he didn't have a car. I searched the halls, classrooms, closets, and no Finn I started to worry, he had to be outside. And sure enough there he sat on the bench eating what I assumed was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. That evil purple scar still haunted his face.
