The Truth
General POV:
Everyone saw it. No one knew exactly what it meant, except for Caleb McLaughlin.
Had the infamous Finn Wolfhard been in a fight? Doubtful, not without recognition. But the Finn Wolfhard was covered with bruises. Only fights could give you that amount.
Sure Finn had bruises on his face a couple of times. People noticed. They just figured it was a baby fight that went undocumented because it was nothing but a few scratches.
But this... this wasn't a few scratches. Finn didn't even hide it this time. He attempted to ignore the whispers. People predicted Romeo or Jacob, his enemies, but neither had any idea of how Finn had gotten so beat up.
So when the party sat down at the lunch table that day (Grace deciding to join them) they couldn't help but acknowledge to obvious.
"Finn what the hell happened to you?" Sadie blurted out. Everyone faced him for his reaction. Everyone wanted to know the truth. Finn gulped and looked around nervously.
"I-I was in a fight." He said warily. The party exchanged glances before going back in.
"With who?" Grace asked curiously. Millie thought she knew the answer. She had predicted it along with Sadie.
"My... cousin!" He said challengingly.
"Your cousin?" Maddie asked in disbelief. Gaten scoffed and shook his head.
"It wasn't your cousin, Finn that is obvious. Really, what is it?" Gaten asked as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"It was self inflicted." Finn spit out in response. Everyone was surprised by that comment.
"What, really?" Millie asked with knitted eyebrows. Finn and Millie kept a solemn stare until Finn broke it and sighed, shaking his head.
"No. It was my... dad." He said slowly and firmly. Grace and Noah gasped immediately getting what he was saying.
"You and your dad got in a fight?" Maddie asked, not fully understanding his comment. Finn sighed and his shoulders slumped.
"Well, yeah I mean like. M-my dad... abuses me?" Finn said in more of a question. Everyone gasped except Caleb and Millie. Sadie was surprised he had even said anything at all.
Noah who sat beside Finn immediately engulfed him in an awkward side hug. Everyone else was still taking it in, processing the deep words.
Is it true? Was the happy, funny, flirtatious Finn Wolfhard abused? How could this be? He never showed it. He had put on an act, hiding the truth that lied inside him. Finn's personal/ home life was miserable. His mother was dead, his brother was gone, his father was drunken and abusive.
But what really surprised them was that they, his closest friends hadn't realized it before. They couldn't see their friend hurting. Everyone felt pity and guilt. No one spoke too caught up in their own thoughts.
Finn sat there waiting for a response from the non-responsive audience. He fidgeted with his fingers nervously so Millie reached out and held his hand. They made contact. Millie's eyes didn't reflect pity or sorry. They only reflected affection and pride. She knew this whole time, she was proud he spoke out. What Millie truly wanted to do was more than hand holding. She wanted to bring Finn into a bear hug and never let go. Not until, of course... he was better.
