The kind of smile that would be cruel not to kiss.

Evelyn was all but exhausted as she threw herself on the bed.

Having found out earlier today that she would be staying in New York, she had immediately thought about buying her own place, maybe even salvaging her old apartment if it was still on sale, which she doubts very much.

The brightest solution for her right now was to stay at one of her hotels.

She wouldn't be charged of course, and it was a smart idea, but something told her Madi would be pissed off.

The doorbell rang, and it took every bit of will power she had to move her ass, and go answer the very unreasonable person who managed to move her out of bed.

"Yes?"

She opened the door, and then gasped.

"What? It's seven right?"

Tony Stark stared at his Rolex clad hand, and frowned.

"Well, it's 6:57, but it's almost seven, why aren't you dressed?" He asked, confused.

And then she did the unthinkable, she slammed the door in his face, only to open at a second later with him raising an eyebrow at her.

"So, you're real." She nodded, suddenly feeling stupid.

"Oh, I am as real as you want me to be." He smirked, relishing in her embarrassment.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, wrapping both arms around her chest, protecting herself from the cold hallway.

"Well, I told you I'd pick you up. Guess you didn't take me seriously, big mistake on your part." He smiled, rocking back and forth on his feet, feeling a bit chilly himself.

"Are these for me?" The corner of her lips tugged up a little, almost displaying a smile, and yet she refused to show it as she eyed the red roses.

"Yeah. They're still your favourite right?" His voice was calm and collected, but his face was showing the exact opposite.

He had a hopeful expression on his face, hoping that she wouldn't turn them down, that she wouldn't turn him down.

And so she smiled, a sad smile because he had remembered.

He had remembered one meaningless detail that meant the world to her.

"Yes. They still are. Please, come in, it's freezing." She held onto her robe as she stepped aside, inviting him in.

Taking off his heavy coat, he set it down gently on the edge of the couch, looking around, finally having enough time to actually study the place.

"Coffee or tea?" Evelyn leaned against the kitchen counter, watching him from the gap in the kitchen as he looked around.

"Is that even a question?" He smirked, knowing well enough that he wasn't a 'tea' kinda guy.

"How rude of me. I'm sorry." She feigned hurt, placing her palm on her chest, chuckling at their silliness.

"I wanted to take you out." He added, feeling just a little bit upset that he didn't go through with his plans.
