I giggled softly, watching the small feet of our child press up against the broad back of Sergio as they lay, Katelyn far too deep in her sleep to notice that she was harassing her Papa to no end though I was sure that Sergio was used to it by now. It was him that usually picked the little one up and tossed her into our bed playfully in the middle of the night though last night she had kept him up with one of her favorite Disney movies, the movie still playing when I got home and found the pair fast asleep in each other's arms.
I was sure to get a picture of my favorite twosome before I crawled into bed myself and fell asleep. It was now morning and though Katelyn still lay asleep, she didn't have her arms wrapped around Sergio's neck this time, his back now turned to her and able to sustain the brunt of her unaware kicks.
Ah, mornings with children.
I looked to the clock that read 6:35 a.m. I was free from any obligations today and so was Sergio so I figured that it would be best to allow him to sleep. I soon realized he wasn't sleep at all, listening to the bed sound as he rolled over and looked at me.
I giggled and asked, "Having fun over there?"
Sergio playfully rolled his eyes, his arm supporting him as he laid against the pillow. "Did you just sit there and watch as she kicked me?"
"Of course I did. I can't move that little angel. Look at her." We both looked at the sleeping child between us as her body continued to rise and fall with every breath she took. Sergio eventually looked up at me and playfully rolled his eyes before rolling back over.
"She's not as cute when she's the reason I have back pains."
"Aw isn't worth it though?"
"How come she never kicks you? Why is it always me?" He slid from under the covers and stood up, stretching his arms above his head to draw my attention to his shirtless top. He was a little too hot even in the morning while I was sure I looked the complete opposite.
"I'm her favorite," I boasted with a proud grin but I think we both knew that wasn't the truth. Lynnie was a daddy's girl through and through. She clung to him whenever he was around and insisted on playing his partner in crime. "Why don't you lay down and relax? It's your day and you're not even in bed all morning like you're supposed to be. Happy Father's Day!"
"Thanks, baby but I would rather not spend all day in bed. I'd prefer to spend it with you." He walked around the bed until he was standing above me and able to plant a peck to my lips. Unsatisfied with the initial kiss, he lowered his lips to mine once more and gave me a longer kiss.
"I could make you breakfast?" I suggested with a smirk. Cooking wasn't really my forte. I was still surprised with how I was able to keep a man who ate as much as Sergio satisfied when I couldn't even cook. I had been trying out different recipes here and there. Some worked out and well, others ended up with burnt pots and pans.
"Yeahhh, I'm not too sure about that," Sergio joked, raising his hand to scratch his head while I playfully hit him with a pillow.
"Geez. Way to make me feel better."
"Just know I love you for you and not your cooking." He gave me one more kiss before walking off in the direction of the bathroom. I relaxed where I lay, grabbing my phone on the stand beside me and scrolling through it to check for any messages I had gotten while I was sleep. I could hear Sergio speak over the sound of the sink running.
"Will you be my date tonight?"
"Date for what? What's tonight?" He hadn't told me of any plans to attend an event or of a date he had planned. Figuring that it was a day to celebrate him, I didn't expect him to take the initiative to do all of the work I was supposed to be doing. I slid out of bed as well and walked to into the bathroom, standing at the doorframe watching him and waiting for an answer.
"I just want to take you out. Maybe you can wear that dress you just bought."
"What about Katelyn?"
"She can come too."
I was laughing then. "Oh no. No way. Do you not remember the last time we took her to dinner with us? She threw a temper tantrum. She does not like being out." She had decided to cry her lungs out as soon as we got inside of the restaurant and sat down, flailing about her arms wildly. So wildly she had knocked her cup down on the table and spilled the bright red liquid right into her father's lap and onto his white pants.
I guess it was a funny memory looking back on it.
"She'll be fine. Trust me. No colored drinks this time."
"If you think that's the solution to keeping her quiet, more power to you."
"I got this under control. You just look nice and I'll handle everything else."
"Isn't this supposed to be your day?"
"Every day with you two is my day."
