By fortheloveoffutbolI had been at work for hours now and though I was usually fine with having to come into the store and work, today all I wanted to do was cuddle my blankets and sleep as I hadn't been getting the rest I needed to over the past few days.
I stood behind the register and dropped the cans of vegetables into a bag for the paying customer in front of me, thanking her as she took the bag from my hand and began her journey out after already having paid.
I turned my attention to my phone hidden underneath the register as no one was currently left in my line. I first clicked into my messages to see a few from my friends asking what I was up to. I began typing away until a voice interrupted me.
"Well, look who it is."
My head jolted up at the familiar voice to see Manuel standing in front of me with a grin on his face. It wasn't abnormal to see him here. In fact, a Monday visit was typical from him whenever he was in town. He always came by the grocery store at a specific date, at a specific time and always to my line. It didn't matter if my line had ten people ahead of him and another was shorter. He would always insist on me being the one to ring up his purchases. I took it as his way of flirting and I more than welcomed it. It was my only chance to see or speak to the Bayern star.
"You're right on time," I smirked. I began to grab for the items he put out for me to ring up, taking note of the assortment of items. It would have been a lie if I said I hadn't had a dream or two of me maybe being the one to stock these groceries in his pantry and cabinets when he returned home from the store. And maybe I didn't dream that at some point he would combine all of these delicious items and cook me a romantic dinner at home.
I never admitted that to him though, afraid of coming off like some sort of creep. Instead I just remained quiet on my late night thoughts.
"You know, you weren't here last time I came by. I was a bit disappointed when some new girl took a little too much joy in ringing up my stuff and ended up dropping my milk," he chuckled, causing me to laugh along as well. I already knew who he was referencing.
"She's new. I'm sorry about that. I guess I should have warned her a certain celebrity comes by sometimes."
"Celebrity, huh? That's what I am to you?" His face donned curiosity in a teasing manner and I playfully shrugged. "I mean you are pretty important around here, no?"
"Important makes me sound more...important than I really am but I guess I'll take it."
I continued grabbing his items and scanning them so they could pop up on the register, dropping them into bags carefully as I did. "Ooh, great choice," I said as I held up the large chocolate bar he had chosen. It was one of my favorite brands and the white chocolate had to be my favorite as it practically melted in my mouth every time I ate a piece.
"You like it? You can have it," he offered but I shook my head. "No thank you. You enjoy it. I have plenty at home." It was a bit of a lie. I had ran out of my chocolate stash exactly three days ago but I didn't want to bother him with gifting me his purchase.
"You sure?"
"Positive."
"Alright."
I finished ringing up his items before offering him his total. He held out his cash to me and I took it, counting it carefully. I grabbed his change and handed it off to him before putting the cash he had given me into the cash registrar.
"Thank you," he smiled. "So you'll be here in two weeks right? Monday at 2?"
"Monday at 2. Wouldn't miss it."
