I'm fifty and Claire says I should buy a motorcycle.
She says that men in their fifties can go through strange mid life crisis and that I should buy a motorcycle because it's the tamest kind in her mind.
I tell her I have no interest in buying a motorcycle, or of going through any kind of crisis.
Sure, hitting the big fifty is kind of unsettling. But I'm always anticipating my birthdays because Claire and I finally got together on my birthday, twenty years ago now. My birthdays aren't making me feel old, they make me feel grateful for another year with Claire. Another year with our kids.
I'm happy. I'm so, so happy. I don't wish for anything more in life, just maybe a couple of grandkids in a few years, but even then I'm okay without them.
I've been so lucky. I've had such an amazing life.
I love my work. I love my children. And I love my Claire.
