"The Eagles Gazette is a team that is all working towards the same goal. Showcasing our school for the greatness that it is. We're not afraid to talk about issues others won't, we uncover the truth. There's no bias here." The editor, who had introduced himself as Max said.

"Now, I do understand we have a few new students wanting to join, but we only have a spot for one more on the team. So I want you to write about something that's caught your eye about this school. Really showcase who you are as a writer. Have it on my desk by Friday. You'll get the results on Monday."

I made eye contact with the two other candidates. I was determined to get that spot.

"The rest of you, welcome back. Find your old desk, get situated. I'll be assigning columns in twenty." Max stood up and headed to his desk.

I noticed Matt situating himself at his desk, I saw a few photos of him in football gear, running track. Then a few with his family.

I was going to approach him, but then stopped. I needed to plan out my article, I needed to choose something that was going to make me win.

I found an empty chair and pulled my laptop out. Hm. I've only been here for a few days, yet what is one thing I've noticed...

I begin frantically typing notes, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Matt.

"Fancy seeing you here. I'm not surprised, but very happy." He grinned.

"Thank you..I'm hoping I get the position." I sighed. "Think I'll be able to pull it off?"

"I have no doubts. Here, you can use my desk to work if you want, I gotta get to football practice." He offered.

"You don't mind? Thank you." I smile gratefully, gathering my things.

"I'm already writing the sports column, Max knows it's my strong suit. Hey, I'll see you tomorrow, Astrid." He waved, before leaving.

I settled down in his chair, taking a deep breath in before continuing to research.

The two hours we were allowed to stay in the office went by quickly. Max kicked us all out, told us to go home and sleep. To come ready to work tomorrow.

I pulled my phone out and called Jacob, hoping he'd be out of football practice by now.

"They're still practicing. First day always takes longer. They're less prepared." Jon interrupted me.

He was leaned against the wall, smoking a cigarette.

"Why are you here? School ended hours ago, you don't participate in anything. And your not here because you love school..so why?" I questioned.

"Well if you must know, Olivia is a cheerleader. I'm waiting for her." Jon smirked.

"Ah right, your private hooker. Sorry." I shrug. "I'm leaving anyways."

"Who shit in your cereal? What has Olivia ever done to you?" Jon tilted his head.

"Nothing. She's done nothing." I sighed.

"Or is it because she's doing me? Hm? Admitting your jealous..I didn't expect this to happen so soon.." He chuckled.

"Stop. You don't know shit. Just leave me alone." I demanded, before storming out to Jacobs truck. He always left the keys in the glove box.
