"Two house burgers and chili fries, enjoy guys!" I smile, setting down plates infront of customers. My first night back and it was busier than I ever remembered it being.
"Astrid, there's more over by the door!" Libby called as she flipped burgers in the kitchen. Hal quit and moved to The Carolinas, as he qualified for early retirement. So Libby has to pick up the slack in the kitchen until she finds a new head cook.
"Sit anywhere you'd like guys!" I say to the couple standing by the door. I hand them menus at the booth just as Libby rings the bell which means an order is complete.
"Your due for a break in ten minutes," Libby says as I load up my tray.
"I just got here.." I trailed.
"You've been here six hours. It's almost nine." She informed, "And besides I wanna talk to you anyways about something."
"Alright.." I nodded, trying to think of what she'd need to talk to me about. As soon as business started to slow and all the customers seemed content at the moment, I followed Libby into the backroom.
"Jacob called earlier and said that tomorrow morning your class is leaving for the senior trip. He said you weren't planning on going, but it sucks for you because I've already paid the fee." She revealed.
"W-What? I didn't wanna go for a few reasons.." I grumbled.
"I have an idea on what those are.." She eyed me suspiciously, meaning she knew about me and Jon, and Olivia. Again.
"I feel bad you paid, I'll talk to Weller to see if you could get refunded." I explained.
"No, you won't," She shook her head, "Your going on that trip Astrid. Be a student, have fun in Virginia, I hear Matt's going, I know you two are friends again."
"Fucking Jacob." I muttered, making a mental note to murder him when he comes back from his vacation.
"I'm giving you the rest of the week off, and I expect a ticket to your graduation next weekend." She instructed.
"Of course, I'm buying them in school this week." I agreed. "Thank you Libs."
She pulled me in a hug. "Your like the daughter I never had."
"I'm gonna miss you when I leave," I begin to frown, but she points a finger at me.
"Let's not talk about that yet. Go home and pack."
"You don't want me to finish here?" I questioned.
"No, it's starting to steady anyways, I can handle it. Gooo!" She shoos me out of the room.
I grab my keys and phone and head to the truck. Jacob already said this was mine anyways, since he is living in London soon.
'Hey Matt, looks like I'll be joining you on the trip!'
Figured I'd let him know I'd be hanging with him and his friends the whole time, since Rex and Ellie weren't going. As long as I stayed far away from Jon and Olivia I'd be fine. God, it still makes me want to throw up thinking about them actually getting married.
I drive home just in time to have dinner with mom, who's overly excited that I decided to go on the trip. She told me the realtor called her today and said that there's already offers on the house, and she's scheduling walk throughs next week.
Everything was happening so fast. In a matter of months, everyone's lives would be so different. I didn't want to think about the future yet, because it's all very bittersweet.
So instead I focused on packing, and only stopped to text with Matt, who also was excited I was coming along.
