My mom used to tell me stories about her prom when I was a little girl. I couldn't wait till I could go.
Now, I didn't want too.
In my mind I felt I shouldn't be allowed to have fun when it felt like everything around me was falling apart. Kathie was getting worse and worse everyday, to the point she couldn't get out of bed anymore.
I screwed up and lost a really close friend. And now have to go with my cousin. Every girls dream right?
The day before I found a decent dress which was baby blue and not too flashy. Jacob rented a tux and that was that.
Now when it came time to leave the house, we got photos taken by Kathie and she made us promise her we would have fun.
Jacob drove to the school which was flooded with limos and party buses.
"Ready?" I asked, unbuckling my seatbelt.
"Y-Yeah.." Jacob muttered, exiting the car.
Together we walked into the gymnasium which was transformed into an 'Under The Sea' theme. Boringg.
The dance floor was packed with couples slow dancing awkwardly with one another. Jacob and I found an empty table and grabbed seats.
"So are we gonna sit here all night or do something?" He sighed.
"Like what?" I wondered.
"I'll go get us punch." He offered, walking over to the refreshment table.
I took my phone out and clicked on my mom's number typing,
I miss you.
What am I thinking? I haven't heard from her in a few weeks, why should I send her something? I deleted the message and grumbled silently.
My eyes went to Jacob, who was on his way back holding our cups of punch.
"Alright here you are," He set them down as he returned.
"Here's something to make it taste better.." I smirked, pulling out a flask from my boot. I poured a little vodka into my cup and offer it to Jacob.
"One of us is driving," He reminded, shaking his head.
"More for me." I laughed, pouring some more into mine before tucking it back away. I needed one thing to make this night even remotely interesting.
"Attention Ladies and Gentlemen," Principal Weller tapped the mic at the stage. "I hope everyone has a wonderful time at this year's senior prom! To announce some of the activities happening tonight, your student body President Grace!"
Grace appeared on the stage, wearing a peach colored dress. She looked gorgeous. "Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you know that there's tons of raffles and chances to win some really cool prizes tonight, as well as games set up in the auditorium! Most of all, I hope you all have an amazing time tonight..and make sure to spend it with the right people. Thank you."
It somehow felt like she was staring right through Jacob as she spoke. He grabbed my cup of spiked punch and downed it, "Seems like a perfect night to drink," He scoffed, heading to get another.
"Wow Astrid, I wasn't expecting you to be here!" A shrilly voice shouted over the music. I turned my head and saw Olivia had made her way over.
She was in a grey dress which had rhinestones all over the chest area, and she also had a tiara placed on her head. No comment there..
"Wow, you look..great.." I looked her up and down, my voice staying monotone.
"I know! And uh, you look..fine," She grimaced, "But I'd assume you would be here with a date!"
