A few weeks later...
*** Grady's POV ***
My art show, "I Was There," is premiering in a few days, and I've been working late pretty much every night deciding what photos should go in and which ones didn't.
As for Kaitlyn, I hadn't been talking to her much. It took me hours to respond to a text, and we weren't intimate much anymore because she was usually sleeping by the time I got home.
Tonight was a little different. She was actually up and in the living room waiting for me, and it caught me off guard.
"Are you aware of what time it is?" She questioned as soon as the door opened. "Seriously, Grady, this shit is getting old. You've been coming home late every day for almost a week now."
"I didn't know you also doubled as my mom," I muttered under my breath as I shut the door behind me. "This show is a really big deal to me. Don't you get that?"
She eyed me as I walked into the kitchen.
"I get it," she said as she stood up. "But I'm also your girlfriend. Don't you think you should be paying attention to me, too?"
"Did I get this needy when you had tests at school?" I quizzed. "It's only for a few more days, Kaitlyn. Chill the fuck out."
She crossed her arms, leaning against the wall as she watched me pull a frozen pizza out of the freezer.
"Is this how you used to talk to your other girlfriends?" She asked.
I rolled my eyes as I shook my head, putting the pizza on a pan and into the oven. I didn't want to start a fight over something so stupid, especially at almost 2 in the morning.
"Grady, answer me," Kaitlyn said as she moved away from the wall, walking towards me. "Don't ignore me."
"I don't want to fight with you over something so fucking stupid, Kaitlyn," I muttered. "Stop being so fucking needy and be happy for me for once."
She was taken aback by what I said because it took her a minute to come up with a response.
"I've supported you since we started dating if you don't recall," she finally said. "And I don't know who you think you are or how you talked to your previous girlfriends, but you're not going to talk to me like this."
"Look at how you're acting," I said as I leaned against the counter. "You're yelling at me for coming home late when you know I've got a big show coming up in just two days."
I rolled my eyes as I opened up the fridge, getting a beer.
"I'm not needy. I'm your girlfriend, Grady," she said with a shaky voice. "It's time you start treating me like it."
"Kait, I'm working on something that I'm super proud of right now. If you can't understand that, then you can just leave," I said as I watched her. "I can't have you constantly begging me for attention."
"Fine," she responded without missing a beat. "You'll just have an empty house. You'll come home every night and realize how lonely you are. I deserve someone who's going to be there for me and treat me like their actual girlfriend."
"Kaitlyn-" I called as she marched up the stairs to pack. "You don't have to leave. I didn't mean it like that."
I heard shuffling, and closet doors opening and closing. She was yelling things as she packed, but it was muffled and hard to understand.
"Save your fucking sob story, Grady," she said as she came downstairs with a bag and Iris, who was almost three times his original size now. "I don't want to hear it."
