*** Gerald's POV ***
Rosie's a little over two months old, which means that I've been basically living in Rachel's apartment full-time since a little over halfway through her pregnancy.
I moved out of my apartment after my lease had ended, and a lot of my furniture and bigger items were in storage, but most of my stuff was in her apartment.
We'd been talking about getting a house together ever since Grady and Kaitlyn got married, and we even looked at a couple, but Rachel didn't care for the ones we did see because they didn't feel right to her.
I had found another one that we both really liked - so I decided to move forward in buying it. It was a long process, but we finally closed on the house today, so I was surprising Rachel with the keys.
"We're waiting for mommy to get off work," I smiled back at Rosie in her car seat after parking the car. "Then we're going to go back to our old home and start packing."
Rachel normally got off around noon, but she'd been helping some of the other reporters edit their packages for newscasts lately, so she'd stay until 1:30 or 2 sometimes. I didn't know what any of that meant, but I understood when she came home tired.
A little after 1:30, Rachel came out of the building and smiled as she walked over to my car. When she got in, I leaned over and greeted her with a kiss.
"How was work, baby?" I asked as I started the car again. "Rough day?"
"A little," she said as she peeked in the backseat and smiled at Rosie, who was sleeping now. "But I had a good day. We got a new girl who really likes video editing, so I should hopefully start leaving at noon again."
"That's great," I smiled as I put a hand on her thigh. "I have a surprise for you."
She put her hand on top of mine, and then looked up at me as she tilted her head to the side.
"What is it?" She quizzed. "Is it a good one?"
"I definitely think so," I chuckled as I pulled up outside of the house we'd been looking at. "Come on."
She looked a little confused but got out anyway and unbuckled Rosie's car seat, getting it out and following me up the stairs.
"Gerald," she began, watching me. "How are we even getting in here? We don't even have the keys yet."
I turned around and watched her eyes grow wide as I walked into the entry hallway. I laughed and motioned for her to come inside. Slowly, she stepped in while keeping a hold on Rosie's car seat.
"Do we have the keys?" She asked as she set Rosie's car seat down. "Is the house ours?"
"Yeah," I grinned as she came over and wrapped her arms around me. "I got the call this morning while you were at work. Now, all we gotta do is pay to break your lease and move in. It's all ours."
"Oh, my God," she laughed as she started to cry. "I can't believe this whole house is ours..."
The house was two levels with the living room, kitchen, a bathroom and two bedrooms on the first floor. On the second floor, there were two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two more empty rooms that we still haven't decided what we're going to use for.
"You know after we get everything set up, we'll have two extra bedrooms that we need to fill," she said as we sat down in the middle of the empty living room floor next to Rosie's car seat. "Maybe we could think about having more children in the future."
"I definitely want more babies," I smiled as I rocked Rosie. "That's kind of the whole reason why I wanted a bigger house, you know. We're going to be getting married soon, and both of our careers are doing really well. I just think we're in a good place financially and relationship-wise t start having more children."
She laid her head on my shoulder as we sat there in silence. A few years ago, I never thought I'd be falling in love with the girl who got a press pass to my show to interview me. I never thought I'd have a baby, talk about getting married or even buy a house with the love of my life to grow our family.
Rachel and I have been through hell and high water, but we always made it through.
"I love you," I whispered as I kissed her head. "I can't wait to get settled in here."
