Three weeks later...
Things have been going pretty great between Gerald and I. He brought even more of his stuff over, and there've only been two or three nights where he's had to stay at the studio pretty late, but he's been at my apartment every other day.
I've been wanting to bring up getting back together before Rosie comes, but we've been in such a good place recently that I didn't want to ruin it. Especially since she'll be here in just a little over two months.
The crib that Gerald had special ordered arrived last night, and he's been working on it all morning. I've been organizing Rosie's closet.
Kaitlyn threw a small baby shower get together with a few of our friends and family last week, and everyone brought us so many cute outfits, plus tons of diapers, baby shampoo, and even a car seat.
"Let me help," I said softly as I sat down on the floor across from Gerald. "What do the instructions say?"
"This bolt is supposed to go here," he muttered as he pushed the pamphlet towards me. "But it's not going in."
He handed it to me and I looked up at the crib, and then back down at the diagram.
"What about this hole?" I suggested, standing up on my knees and sliding it in. "It seems to fit there."
Gerald glanced up and watched me, and then screwed the bolt in place while I held the piece of crib frame.
"There," I grinned as I placed a kiss on his cheek. "That wasn't so hard!"
He laughed and pulled me down into his lap. Slowly, he scooted back against the wall and pulled me closer so that I was resting between his legs with my back against his chest.
"I can't believe the time has flown by so quick," he said as he placed both hands on my belly. "We've been getting along super great."
"I know," I said as I placed my hands on top of his. "I've enjoyed getting to keep this pregnancy private between us and our friends."
Gerald placed a soft kiss on top of my head as he rubbed the sides of my belly gently while leaning his head back against the wall.
"I've been thinking about our future, honestly," he admitted. "You asked me a while ago about getting back together, and I didn't want to because I didn't want to mess up what we have going. But I think we may be ready to try again when Rosie gets here."
My heart skipped a beat, and my cheeks flushed a bright red. I leaned back on his shoulder and brought his head down to place a kiss on his lips.
"Actually, I've been wanting to talk to you about that for a while now, but I was scared to ruin what we have going," I said with a grin. "When you're ready to try again, I'll be here. I love you, Gerald. And I can't wait to be a family."
"Your pregnancy made me realize that I have to start growing up if I want to be a good parent to our daughter and an even better man to you," he said as he ran his fingers through my hair. "I know we've been through hell and back, but I don't want that no more. I wanna make sure I keep you forever."
Carefully, I turned around in between his legs and sat on my knees. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him in for a kiss again. His hands rested on my hips as one of them snaked up my back and held the back of my neck gently.
"I love you," he hummed against my lips. "I promise I'll be ready for you."
"Take your time," I whispered before tugging on his bottom lip. "As long as you need."
We stayed there in the half-painted nursery kissing for a little while before we both decided to get up. Gerald stood up and held out his hands, pulling me up.
"Wanna order a pizza? We could stream that Avengers movie you've been wanting to see," he offered as he followed me out of the nursery.
"Infinity War?" I questioned with a laugh. "You want to watch a Marvel movie with me?"
He chuckled with a smirk as he sat down on my couch, grabbing the remote.
"I'm trying to change for you," he winked. "Order a pizza."
I walked over to the counter and grabbed my phone before sitting down next to him. I opened up the Dominos app and ordered a pepperoni pizza for him, and a sausage pizza with extra cheese for me. In addition, I ordered cheesy bread and one of those cookie brownies.
"Rosie is kicking!" I chirped as I set my phone down. "Feel it!"
He nearly dropped the remote and spun around on the couch to put his hand on the front of my belly.
"Holy shit," he breathed out as he looked at me. "She's quite the little ninja tonight."
We both laughed as I leaned back on the couch, both of our hands on my bump. He watched in awe as she kicked again, smiling at me. A few tears threatened to spill over onto his cheeks, but he quickly blinked and wiped them away.
"That's my strong girl," he said with a laugh as he leaned in and kissed my cheek. "She'll be a soccer star one day."
"Like me when I was kid," I laughed as I looked up at him. "I love you."
"I love you," he repeated, kissing my temple before turning back to the tv. "I'm changing for you, and for Rosie."
"And I'm proud of you," I smiled as I squeezed his hand. "I'm proud of you for trying so hard."
