Luke’s POV
I wasn’t sure if she was going to burst into furry or tears.
But she returned a small smile, “Morning.”
“Mac and cheese?” she asked.
We both knew it was a bit awkward, but it was a start.
“Mhm.”
A few brown strands of her hair was tucked behind her ear, tired eyes with bags under them.
I didn’t realize I was staring at her until she leaned closer to the food.
So I continued to stir with my wooden spoon, and turned off the flame.
“Hungry?” I asked.
She looked into my eyes before glancing away, “Mhm.”
I went over to a cupboard and pulled out two bowls, where she went to a drawer and got two spoons.
We worked quietly as I scooped out our late lunch into the bowls.
“Do you want anything to drink?” she asked.
Looking over, I watched her head disappear into the fridge.
“Ummm... water is fine.”
“Okay.”
Working extra slowly, I watched the cheese drip off the spoon.
I realized how awkward it would be to be done before her, and just stand here.
From the corner of my eye, I watched her fill a glass with water, another with milk.
Finishing up the food, I slipped the spoons into the bowls and held them both in my hands.
I watched as she held her glass of milk in one hand, and the other on the duvet she clung onto.
When she turned around, she realized she couldn’t hold both glasses.
I brought the bowls to the living room, and set it on the coffee table across the couch.
She followed behind me and set down her glass of milk, before heading back to retrieve the abandoned glass of water.
I thanked her as she handed me my water, and walked around the couch to sit down.
“No problem.”
We ate silently to more reruns of “How I Met Your Mother” on tv, with the occasional laughs.
An advertisement came on when Cass spoke up.
“I almost forgot to tell you, Ashton wants you to call or text him.”
I looked over and we shared a brief moment of eye contact, before she looked back to the tv.
Leaning over, I picked up my phone from the coffee table and checked my texts.
Ashton: Where are you?
Ashton: Helllllllllloooooooooooo??!?!?
Luke: I’m at Cassy’s
A few seconds later, he responded.
Ashton: Yeah, she told me
Luke: Ok
Ashton: Did you tell her yet?
Luke: :\ idk if right now’s a good time
Ashton: True
Ashton: But it’s CASS, you could tell her anything, remember?
Luke: Yea, I wish I never messed up
Ashton: It’s okay, people make mistakes
Luke: I almost, or already, lost Cass
Ashton: C’mon, you're there with her right now, you never did and never will lose her
Ashton: So get her back
Luke: Thanks :)
Ashton: You could ask galactic trap though, she’ll help you :)
Luke: She would?
Ashton: Text me if anything happens okay?
Luke: K, thanks
I put down my phone and train my eyes back to Cass.
