With Me All Along

Luke’s POV

The tree bark felt raw under my palms, scratching and digging into my skin.

I hoist myself up to a branch next to Cass, and carefully sit down, letting my legs dangle around it.

Music echos from her phone in hand, trailing out and between the leaves.

A few birds perch on the end of our branches, their tiny beaks chirping, intrigued by the sounds.

I couldn’t recognize the song, it was a rock band I didn’t recognize.

“Hey,” I whisper.

“Hey,” she replies.

Hello my friend, we meet again

“So you’re galactic.trap18?”

She didn’t face me, but I could see a tiny smile when she continued to face the sea.

“Yea.”

It's been awhile, where should we begin?

Feels like forever

All this time... she was with me.

Within my heart are memories

She lets out a laugh, “I’m surprised that you didn’t figure me out.”

Of perfect love that you gave to me

Oh, I remember

I thought I recognized her voice... but it was at the tip of my tongue...

“You're just unexpecting...”

 

When you are with me, I'm free

I'm careless, I believe

She is always unexpecting.

Her music taste goes beyond what I could imagine, each playlist with a mix of songs I never thought would go together.

The little things that she does to make me smile or laugh.

The things that she says to encourage or comfort me.

Above all the others we'll fly

“Is that a good thing?” she smiles.

She turns her head to face mine, a few strands of hair dance along her jawline, circling around the black studs that pierced her ears.

This brings tears to my eyes

My eyes soften at her smile.

A contagious feeling I get when I see her smile, I couldn’t help but to smile back.

“Without a doubt.”
