Chapter 26

Makoto can feel the heat radiating off of Hanji's body. Her arms were wrapped tightly around her as Hanji embraces the taller girl. She buries her face into her shoulder, hiding her flustered face.

Makoto can feel her cheeks heat up as well as she looks away. She couldn't believe that she was getting flustered over a hug.

It feels nice to have someone hold her that tightly. Being in Hanji's arms makes Makoto feel a sense of reassurance. It was grounding for her.

"I never fully apologized for what happened to you back then. I'm sorry I didn't fight harder for you. No one deserves to go through that." Hanji says softly. 

"Nothing can change it now," Makoto replies.

The two stand in silence, enjoying each other's warmth. 

It came to an end however when Levi coughs behind Hanji, grabbing her attention.

 "When you're done having your hug session, we have to go." Levi says, his voice stern.

"I apologize, Levi. I got a bit caught up." Hanji says as she lets go of Makoto. 

"How about you Canine? Do you have anything to say for yourself?" Levi says impatiently. 

 "No sir," Makoto grumbles under her breath. Levi nods and looks at Hanji before walking away, "Five minutes."

"I'm sorry I got you in trouble," Hanji says once Levi was out of hearing range. 

"It's fine. It's not like I cared about what that short stack had to say to me." Makoto replies shrugging. 

The two stand in awkward silence until the five minutes are up and Levi calls out for Hanji. She shouts back and runs to Levi, not sparing a glance over shoulder.

By the time Makoto got home, she was welcomed with a warm hug from Sasha. She tries to push her off but her attempts were useless. Not to mention, Makoto isn't really putting much effort on getting her off. She kind of liked it, not to mention Sasha always smells like fresh bread. 

Once Makoto escapes her embrace, she heads to bed and faces away from everyone else.

Just when Makoto was about to fall asleep, a loud rumble comes from outside. Makoto didn't think much of it at first until she hears it again and a bright flash comes from the window, with the loud patters of raindrops following right after. 

Makoto finally realizes that it was raining heavily outside.

It brings her back to when she was a child, Kyouko and her would fall asleep to the sound of rain and thunder because it made them feel safe. It was much better than the eerie silence with the soft sound of crickets. 

Makoto would quickly fall asleep but it doesn't last long when she's awaken by screams and yelps. Makoto shoots up and looks around to see Sasha hugging her pillowing while Ymir is clinging onto Historia for dear life.

Another thunder rumbles in the night sky, causing Ymir and Sasha to yelp in fear. 

"Oh for fuck's sake," Makoto grumbles as pinches the bridge of her nose. 

"You guys can fight large titans but are scared of thunder?" Makoto comments with annoyance in her voice. 

Ymir was about to make a snarky comment until another flash of lightning appears. She clings onto Historia tighter and buries her face in the crook of her neck. Historia looks up at Makoto for aid, unsure what to do next.

Makoto sighs and gets out of bed, "Move your asses." Our of the corner of her eye, she sees Historia's sparkle in gratitude as she let go of Ymir. Makoto walks over to their bed and lays down in the middle, allowing  Ymir to lay on her right side. Ymir clings onto her and buries her face in her shirt. 

"No fair, I'm scared too!" Sasha whines and runs over to Historia's bunk before another lightning bolt can occur. She throws herself on Makoto as the sky rumbles again. Makoto groans in pain as her body makes an impact against hers. She grins up at Makoto and gets off so she can snuggle up to her left side. Historia lays on top of her, resting her head on Makoto's chest and humming softly in content. Makoto blushes at the attention she's receiving from the three girls and does her best to stay still until they fell asleep.

Makoto is surprised at herself that she's enjoying having someone to cuddle with. Let alone having three people to cuddle with. It makes her feel safe and the warmth from them is comforting. She allows herself to fall into a peaceful slumber.
