The next day, Cardi walked past the empty office of Maddox and paused to look inside.

One thing she had already learned was that Maddox Maxwell was a neat freak. There were no papers on his desk, all books and files were shelved.

"What are you doing, Miss Cardi?" Jean asked from behind her causing Cardi to jump away from the office door.

"Oh, fuck. Jean, you scared the shit out of me," Cardi answered as she placed a hand over her chest.

"Maddox would be very upset if he found you here snooping," Jean said.

"And would he be very upset if he found out that you've been smoking his weed?" Cardi said.

"I never seen you in here," Jean said, walking away.

The next morning, Maxwell, the kids, and Cardi sit down at the table filled with pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and variants of fruits to have breakfast together.

"Hey, Dad can I get a tattoo?" MJ asked.

"What are you trying to get this time?" Maxwell replied.

"I want a half-sleeve tattoo on my left arm," MJ answered.

"It has to be on the upper half of your arm for easy concealing access," Maxwell said.

"That's the plan," MJ said.

"If MJ can get another tattoo then can I get another ear piercing?" Samaria asked.

"Sure," Maddox answered.

"Thanks," Samaria said as she continued to eat.

Later that day, Cardi had invited Janay to come over and hang out since Alanna was taking a nap and the other kids had gone out.

"You know, you haven't been on a date in a while. It might do you some good to get out for a night,"
Janay reminded Cardi as they moved from the kitchen to the living room and settled onto the couch.

"Well, that creepy producer did ask me out," Cardi pointed out with a scowl.

"Hell no, He gives me creepy vibes," Janay said.

"Yeah, he's hella weird," Cardi said.

"What about Demarcus he's been coming around and asking about you?" Janay asked.

"Girl no, you know Demarcus be lying on his dick and I don't need him saying he fucked me or anything like that," Cardi answered.

"Girl, you need to do something. Maybe, get some dick. Jacob is single and I heard he packing," Janay said as Axel and Maddox walked into the room.

"Hello, there," Axel said, winking at Janay.

"Hello," Janay said.

"What are you talking about?" Maddox asked.

Cardi stared at him. Like you don't know, she thought, knowing by the way that they were acting she could tell they had been the ones listening in on them.

"Janay and I were talking about going out for a night of fun," Cardi said.

Maxwell looked at her expectantly. He shrugged as if the information was not worth his time.

Cardi sighed. Why are y'all here? she thought.

"Anyway, Janay this is Maddox, my boss, and his right-hand man, Axel. Maddox, Axel, this is Janay, my best friend," Cardi said, introducing the three.

"Nice to meet y'all," Janay said.

"You too, gorgeous," Axel said.

"Right. Where's Alanna?" Maddox asked.

"She's upstairs taking a nap," Cardi answered.

"Okay, well it was nice to meet y'all but I gotta go and meet my momma at the bridal shop," Janay said, rising from the seat, and placing her cup on the table in front of her.

"She's seriously getting married again," Cardi said.

"Yeah, you know Héctor, pagándole cinco mil para casarse con él para que pueda obtener su ciudadanía," Janay said.

"Chica, tu madre es un desastre," Cardi said.

"Oh, lo sé. Y diviértete jugando con fuego," Janay said as she made her way to the front door and left.

Once Janay left, Cardi leaned back in her seat and looked at Maddox. She crossed her legs just above the knees. She smirked as she saw the way that his eyes fixated upon them.

"Did you want me for something?" Cardi asked him.

Axel stood there watching Maddox stare at Cardi like he would bend her over and fuck her right there and now. He was wondering how he would respond to her.

Axel chuckled which made Maddox speak up.

"Oh, yeah, there was something I needed to talk to you about," Maddox said, finally stopping from staring at her legs and looking at her face instead. "I'm going out of town tonight. So, you know what you're required to do," He said.

"Yes, boss man. I know what I'm required to do," She said.
