Edward's POV
"What the hell is going on here?" Dad made us all come upstairs so he can yell at us. He said he didn't want to embarass us in front of all his friends. I didn't give a shit because it wasn't my party to begin with, and frankly, I don't care what all those idiots have to say.
"We thought it was a good idea to bring nan over," Marcel confesses.
"Oddly enough this was all his idea," I point to Marcel, "it wasn't me this time. You should be proud."
"This is no time to be smart with me!" Dad shouts, "I have done so much to make this party perfect for your grandfather and the last thing I wanted was for my mother to be here tonight. You know how terrible this is for both of them?"
"No," I say, "it's pretty obvious we didn't think this through." Harry punches my arm. I punch him back and we just keep going back and forth.
"That is enough!" he yells and we jump. I look at Marcel and he looks so guilty, it's practically eating him alive. I feel bad but at the same time, I don't feel as responsible because this wasn't my fault.
Dad kept going on about how our grandparents have never been on good terms. Then, he went on and practically retold us their divorce story as if we didn't know. I was getting annoyed and I just nodded along, pretending I was paying attention. He kept yelling at us and saying how idiotic this idea was. He was telling Marcel how he expected more from him and he shouldn't have done that.
Then after that, he yelled at Harry and I for going along with the idea. Harry tried defending himself but I told dad he had as much to do with the plan as the rest of us. If Marcel and I are going down, Harry sure as hell is going down with us. He gets no free ride.
"You are all grounded up until you leave for college," he says.
"Are you fucking kidding me? You can't ground us anymore!" I yell. This is outrageous and I will not stand for it.
"You are all still living in this house and the day you leave for college will be the day you are no longer grounded," his face is red with fury. He's so angry at us for what we did, well Marcel.
"Dad you can't do this to us," Harry yells back, "we only have one more month of freedom!"
"Dad it was my fault," Marcel steps in, "ground me, not them."
"All three of you are grounded! And that is my final word," he shouts. He walks passed us and leaves the room back down to the party. I turn and look at the boys who look very gutted. I'm pissed but I laugh because I'm never grounded, I do what I want.
Tia's POV
Olivia and I decided to walk out on the porch. The party was getting too damn crowded and it was getting humid as well. We couldn't find Harry or Edward anywhere so we came out for some fresh air. They both ditched us and we haven't seen them in over twenty minutes.
"I still can't believe she tried to even talk to him," Olivia rests her shoulders on the railing of the porch and looks up at the sky.
"Well at least your mum in law helped," I say to cheer her up. A smile appears on her face and she laughs a little.
"Anne is so funny," she laughs more and stands up straight.
"Poppy!" we both hear. It was a deep, older persons voice. Male of course.
"Poppy?" I whisper to Olivia, "It can't be."
"Who's Poppy?"
"The boys grandmother," I whisper. Why is she here? I ask myself. She shouldn't be here, this is her ex husbands party! She's a sweet lady but they haven't seen eachother in ages!
"What's the matter?" Olivia whispers.
"Sshh," I say. I peak around the corner of the house to see what's going on.
Poppy, the boys nan and Derrick, the boys grandfather are standing together on the porch. She looks upset, like she wants to yell at him. You can tell she is trying very hard to hold in her tears. Derrick stands there just admiring her beauty. This is so awkward for me to watch but I must know what's happening. I'm still so confused at to why she is here? How did she know he was here?
"Poppy," Derrick finally speaks, "how are you?"
"How am I?" the small woman laughs, "after so long, that's the first thing you ask me? How am I? Do you really want me to answer that question?"
"Poppy I'm so sorry," he says.
"Save it," she raises her hand at him, "I don't want to hear your pathetic excuse. You left me with children to raise, and another one who helped me raise them. You're son is more of a man than you."
"I helped raise them," he almost shouts, "don't pin my children against me. I was there for them, I sent money."
"We never needed your money," she spits at him, "we could have made it without your money. Seeing them once a year for a month doesn't count as raising them. Try sending them off to school every morning. Waking up early to prepare their lunches, making sure they were well behaved and keeping an eye on them every waking second. Taking them to their football games or ballet recitals. You weren't the father you were supposed to be. Nor the husband."
"And you don't think I regret that?" He says to her. "Every second of the day, I spent it wishing I was here, with my family. I spent hours, days even just thinking about what I could be doing right now with you. I missed you so much Poppy. I missed you, I missed my kids, I missed it all. I still do."
This is getting so intense. I feel so guilty listening in but, fuck it! This is so romantic, I think Olivia is about to cry.
"Then why didn't you come back?" Poppy almost yells.
"I was afraid you woulf shut me out," he admits, "I was afraid you wouldn't take me back. I wouldn't be able to handle myself. I still love you Poppy, I've never remarried, I've never taken interest in any woman over there. My mind was always set on you."
"Why do I feel like this might be Edward and I in a couple of years?" I quietly ask Olivia and she laughs.
"You don't mean it," Poppy shakes her head.
"Stop being so in denial of me woman! I love you, I've never stopped loving you!" He smiles, "When I saw you just a couple of minutes ago, my heart stopped! I may be old but I know how I feel about you and I still love you." Derrick pulls Poppy close to his chest and plants a loving kiss on her lips.
"I missed you," she says.
"I love you!" Derrick pulls her in for another kiss.
"Awe," Olivia and I both say very quietly. We stand there, sneaking on them. That was so beautiful.
"Tia, Desmonds coming," she taps repeatedly on my shoulder.
"Shit!" I panic, "hide!"
"Going somewhere ladies?" Edward appears from no where and startles us. Harry comes from behind and so does Marcel. Oh shit.
