Chapter 68

That afternoon, I wanted coffee and I was home from work already, so I took my car and drove into town. The weather was starting to get a bit warmer, so I only needed a sweatshirt. Harry’s sweatshirt to be exact. They were more comfortable than mine anyway.

            I parked my car in the street and hopped out and onto the sidewalk, throwing my purse strap over my shoulder as I walked over to my regular coffee shop. The doorbells chimed as I stepped inside, warmth and the smell of coffee greeting me at the door.

            I walked into line and looked at the menu above my head even though I already knew what I was going to get. I was so engrossed in the options for some reason. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned to see who it was.

            No way.                                                                

            “Hey Maya!” my friend Alyssa from years ago exclaimed.

            My face completely lit up and I immediately hugged her. Even though the two of us were in our thirties, we were both squealing and laughing like teenagers.

            “Oh my god!” I gushed looking at the beautiful lady standing in front of me, “I haven’t seen you in so long!”

            Alyssa laughed, “I know!” she gestured for me to move up in line.

            “What are you doing here?” I smiled and turned around as I stepped forward a little bit.

            “I was just in Canada for a couple weeks and I was on my way home. I had no idea you lived here!”

            “I do! I live like five minutes away from here.”

            “That’s great! I’ve been driving through and it’s absolutely beautiful. Oh, your turn to order,” she pointed to the man at the register.

            “I’ll have a tall mocha latte please,” I ordered and he nodded. I handed him my money and he gave me my change back. Alyssa was next and she ordered a pumpkin spice latte. In a couple minutes, we both had our coffee and were sitting at a table in the back.

            “How’s Harry?” she smiled at me and pushed my arm a little bit.

            “He’s amazing,” I sighed a little bit, “We’ve been married for almost a year and a half now.”

            “Oh wow, that’s great,” Alyssa took a sip of her coffee and I nodded.

            “Oh… yeah… I have something to tell you…”

            “Yes?” she smiled at me.

            “I’m pregnant.”

            She set her coffee on the table, her jaw dropped into a smile, “No way! Are you really?”

            I laughed and nodded, “Yes, it’s been a month or so…”

            “Congratulations!” Alyssa took my hand and squeezed it a little bit, “How is it?”
