Jolene Booth was a decorated veteran after she spent almost fifteen years as an Army sniper, and then one day, she decided that she wanted to return home. After being abandoned by her family in Georgia, she settled in the capital of the nation and sought out help from the veteran community.

At one support group, she meets Sam Wilson, the man who spends his life helping other veteran after his time in the air force. After so ending many days conversing about civilian life and their time in the military, they create a friendship. Jo leans on Sam when things get bad, with the nightmares and the adjustments. Sam leans on her for the same, because he didn't escape without some wounds.

With her budding friendship with Sam, it becomes easier to open up and create more friendships with the other veterans for Jo. The only thing that Jo didn't count on was developing feelings for the man that helped her.
