"Sorry... who?" Fubuki asked in disbelief.
"I guess you know who I'm talking about." I said. "She's the mother." Fubuki stood up from the bed and walked to the front of me. "You're friends with her?" Her voice was creepily low.
"N-No!" I waved my hands out in front of me. "She-She's the person who destroyed a chunk of my life!" She grabbed the back of my neck and forced my head towards her. I was inches from her face.
"If you're with her... I'll tear you to shreds." She threatened. "What's stopping me from calling you a liar and killing you on the spot?" Sweat dripped from my forehead.
"Please don't kill me." I begged. She didn't budge. "I have no evidence I'm telling the truth... except that Psykos was the one who killed the girl I loved."
"What was her name?" Fubuki asked.
"Hailey." I answered quietly. "She was a victim of the monster invasion of the hospital in City A."
"Why were you associated with Psykos?" Fubuki questioned.
"I... was a naive idiot." I answered. "I thought she could help me get stronger, and... I was brainwashed by her to take her side. Then... he happened." I looked over at the sleeping boy. "He all I have left here. I... don't have the courage to see my mom. She'd be too disappointed in me."
"That still doesn't explain why he's half monster." Fubuki explained. She eyed me very suspiciously. I felt like I couldn't lie to her.
"Promise... you won't tell a single soul what I'm about to tell you." I pleaded. She slowly nodded in understanding. "By brainwashed... I meant that I became a monster." Her eyes slightly widened.
"You were a monster?" She asked.
"Yeah." I confirmed. "Please don't tell anyone." She seemed to calm down and take a seat next to me.
"Okay." She agreed. She looked ahead to the bed with Jacob lying on it. "He's a nice looking boy."
"You into that?" I smirked.
"What?!" She yelled with an angry face. "Not like that!" She then calmed down and took a deep breath. "I just meant he is very adorable. How is he so much older than what you say?"
"Well... that's an effect of him being part monster." I explained. "He's not even half a year old, but he has the physical and mental body of an eight-year-old. Psykos explained that he would grow in bursts across his life. He's gonna be eight for a while, but it's not that bad. It's nice having someone to talk to."
"He's pretty strong." Fubuki smiled.
"How would you know?" I asked. "When you saw him, he was halfway to death."
"Anyone would be classified as strong if they could survive for more than a minute against my sister." Fubuki explained.
"Y'know, you two inspired me to try and become a hero when I first moved to City Z." I explained.
"Really?" She asked. "Why haven't you joined the Association yet?"
"I... didn't know you had to join an association to become one, at first." I said, meekly. She just stared at me dully.
"Really?" She asked, probably wondering how my brain could be so slow.
"And... by the time I figured it out, I had become a monster and had gone through countless other things that stopped me from trying out." I explained.
"Well... if you want to be a hero... the Hero Exam is coming up near City Z, so you can become a hero." She offered as she sat down next to me.
"Thanks." I smiled at her. "So.. I heard you're Class B, Rank 1. Why stay in Class B?" Her happy attitude quickly disappeared. She deeply sighed and said,
