Jarlos (Jane x Carlos) #4

Jane's POV

Carlos and I decided to enter a ballroom dancing competition on a whim, basically Auradon's version of the hit TV show "Dancing With the Stars." Carlos and I are dancing a contemporary rumba to the song "Senorita" by Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes. This song has been an overplayed one lately but yet I'm obsessed. Carlos lowkey and highkey loves Shawn Mendes' music so this song choice works out perfectly for a dance routine. Carlos is one of the best dancers in Auradon and I'm so blessed to have him as my partner in this competition. I'm a decent dancer myself so we may actually have a fair shot at winning!

Carlos and I have been practicing this routine day and night for two weeks and are about go on. When our names are announced over the intercom, we share a look of confidence with one another. We press our foreheads against each other's gently and do a quiet chant that only the two of us understand. When we're done, we head up to the stage and throw ourselves right into the music. The music flows through our veins as verse after verse is played through amazing surround sound speakers.

I love it when you call me señorita
I wish I could pretend I didn't need ya
But every touch is ooh la la la
It's true, la la la
Ooh, I should be running
Ooh, you keep me coming for youLand in Miami
The air was hot from summer rain
Sweat dripping off me
Before I even knew her name, la la la
It felt like ooh la la la
Yeah no
Sapphire moonlight
We danced for hours in the sand
Tequila sunrise
Her body fit right in my hands, la la la
It felt like ooh la la la, yeahI love it when you call me señorita
I wish I could pretend I didn't need you
But every touch is ooh la la la
It's true, la la la
Ooh, I should be running
Ooh, you know I love it when you call me señorita
I wish it wasn't so damn hard to leave you
But every touch is ooh la la la
It's true, la la la
Ooh, I should be running
Ooh, you keep me coming for yaLocked in the hotel
There's just some things that never change
You say we're just friends
But friends don't know the way you taste, la la la
'Cause you know it's been a long time coming
Don't you let me fallOoh, when your lips undress me
Hooked on your tongue
Ooh love, your kiss is deadly
Don't stopI love it when you call me señorita
I wish I could pretend I didn't need you
But every touch is ooh la la la
It's true, la la la
Ooh, I should be running
Ooh, you know I love it when you call me señorita
I wish it wasn't so damn hard to leave ya
But every touch is ooh la la la
It's true, la la la
Ooh, I should be running
Ooh, you keep me coming for youAll along I've been coming for you
And I hope it meant something to you
Call my name, I'll be coming for you
Coming for you, coming for you, coming for youFor you (ooh, she loves it when I come)
For youOoh, I should be running
Ooh, you keep me coming for you

When the song is over, Carlos tips me over his knee with a rose stem in his mouth. I'm literally swooning in this awkward position. When he lifts me back up, the audience roars with applause for us. There are three more couples set to perform but the finalists will be announced after that. If we are selected as finalists, we have to perform an improv dance routine to a mystery song and dance style/genre.

A little while later...

Carlos and I are actually finalists in the competition. We have two other couples to compete with for the championship title. Our mystery song ends up being a jive routine to "Tightrope" by Janelle Monae. That's a song I happen to know well. Carlos doesn't really know it but I think we'll be fine. I can guide him through the movements of the song as we go. The dance floor is split up into three separate sections with duct tape. We opt for the right hand section. If we're in the middle, we'll have slightly less room to move around than we would by being in one of the outer sections. The song begins to play and we all begin to jive.

Some people talk about ya like they know all about ya
When you get down they doubt ya
And when you tip it on the scene, yeah they talkin' bout it
Cause they can't tip on the scene
They just talk about it, t-t-t-talk bout it
When you get elevated
They love it or they hate it
You dance up on them haters
Keep getting funky on the scene
While they jumpin' round ya
They trying to take all of your dreams
But you can't allow it
Cause baby whether you're high or low
Whether you're high or low
You gotta tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
T-t-t-tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
Baby, baby, baby, whether you're high or low (high or low)
Baby whether you're high or low (high or low)
You got to tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
Now let me see you do the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
And I'm still tippin' on itSee I'm not walkin' on it
Or tryin to run around it
This ain't no acrobatics
You either follow or you lead, yeah
I'm talkin' bout ya
Keep on blaming the machine, yeah
I'm talkin' bout it
T-t-t-talkin' bout it
I can't complain about it
I gotta keep my balance
And just keep dancin on it
We gettin funky on the scene
Yeah you know about it
Like a star on the screen
Watch me tip all on itThen baby whether I'm high or low (high or low)
Baby whether you're high or low (high or low)
You gotta tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
Yeah, tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
Baby, baby, baby
Whether you're high or low (high or low)
Baby whether you're high or low (high or low)
Tip on the tightrope (tip, tip on it)
Baby let me see you tight rope (tip, tip on it)
And I'm still tippin' on itYou gotta keep your balance
Or you fall into the gap
It's a challenge but I manage
Cause I'm cautious with the strap
Do damage to your cabbage that
A doctor cannot patch
Why you don't want no friction
Like the back of a matchbook
Daddy Fat Sax will fold you
And your MacBook
Close shows, shut you down
Before we go-go backwards
Act up, and whether we high or low
We gonna get back-up
Like the Dow Jones and NASDAQ
Sorta like a thong in an ass crack
Come onI tip on alligators and little rattlesnakers
But I'm another flavor
Something like a terminator
Ain't no equivocating
I fight for what I believe
Why you talkin' 'bout it
J-j-just talkin' 'bout it
Some callin' me a sinner
Some callin' me a winner
I'm callin' you to dinner
And you know exactly what I mean
Yeah I'm talkin bout you
You can rock or you can leave
Watch me tip without youN-n-now whether I'm high or low
(High or low)
Whether I'm high or low
(High or low)
I'm gonna tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
Mmm
(Tip, tip on it)Baby, baby, baby
Whether I'm high or low
(High or low)
High or low
(High or low)
I got to tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
Now baby tip on the tightropeYou can't get too high
(You can't get too high)
I said you can't get too low
(We can't get too low)
Cause you get too high
(You can't get too high)
No, you'll surely be low
(No, you'll surely be low)
1, 2, 3, ho!Yeah, yeah
Now shut up, yeah
Yeah, now put some voodoo on it
Ladies and gentlemen, the funkiest horn section in Metropolis
Yeah, oh
We call that classy brassOhh ohh
Oh!Do you mind?
If I play the ukulele
Just like a little lady
Do you mind?
If I play the ukulele
Just like a little lady

When the song ends, the audience applauds for all three couples and begins to voting process to declare the first place winners. The votes are soon tallied up and by some miracle, Carlos and I win. Not only do we get a knockoff mirrorball trophy, we also receive five hundred dollars each. What a wonderful way to make money. Carlos scoops me up into a hug and my heart is elated. I'm so happy right now, nothing could ruin this moment for me. I think Carlos is feeling the exact same way as me.

I hope that you guys liked this one shot! :) -Mary
