The Heatwave that Left January Trembling

She was a broken records scratching its way through my heart.
Her fingers crossed seas of emptiness to find my hands.
I was cyanide smiles and mercury veins
She was tongue tied heartbreak and the sound of fireworks from mars.
Her hands hold electric shivers waiting to race down my spine.
I used to think love was a concept
A figment of my imagination, if you will.
So I wrote it down on a sticky note and pegged it to my wall.
"There." I said triumphantly. "I have acquired love."
So for years it sat on my wall
Collecting dust
Fading in the sun that peeped through my window.
But one day love came to me in the form of a person
Specifically a girl,
Who had the tendency to accidentally capture stars in her eyes.
That was the day I saw color for the first time.
I saw it in her smile.
Jewel flavored lips and cold hands
She swept me up in her shadow so fast it gave me whiplash.
Honestly I think my head is still spinning
We left our worries on the beach
Set fire to our past
And found the future in memories that are yet to come.
I felt life in her arms
She breathed into my shell and brought a corpse back to life.
She's an oil slick,
dark and misunderstood
but when you look at it in the light
you can see all the colors of the rainbow shimmering on its surface
mesmerizing you by the second.
She held me in her arms so tightly my shattered bits mended back together.
Her absence leaves craters in my soul but I know that when my girl isn't keeping my demons at bay,
She's taking on the world,
One smile at a time.
Stronger than heartache,
Braver than fear,
Gentle like a hurricane,
And more lovely than love.
I hear symphonies every time she blinks
My heart is cascading in folds of orange and yellow
Green and blue
Every color because she's the whole damn rainbow.
She is fire
She gives warmth and life and she can take it away just as quickly.
I burn in her garden
Waiting for the flames to eat me whole.
Her touch is lightning
Radiating through me,
My blood runs thick and gold inside my chest because it only beats for her.
She is life and I am rugged
I am anxiety and fear
But with her...
I am whole.
I love you
And I'll say it again,
I love you.
