Hamanoji Ryokan

It was not supposed to end like this. Meeting her in Kyoto was not a coincidence. Everything had been aligned for them. They had spent the last few days happily together. But, after she left his home, she sent him a message that simply said "I won't be coming. I need to be alone." Confused, Didi texted her back "What happened? Are you mad at me?" He waited an hour but there was no response. His last message to her said "I will be at Hamanoji. Let's talk when I come back."

Immersing himself in his private onsen at his regular ryokan, he sighed and looked up at the moon. Yue, what are you thinking? Do you still miss him? Isn't what we shared beautiful? He thought. His heart pained. He was not sure if he would dream of her tonight. The dreams had stopped after meeting her. Maybe he had mistaken her affections for him. Now that she knew the truth, it seemed like she was going to avoid him at all cost. Didi closed his eyes, feeling helpless.

Yue walked steadily towards his room. She had told the reception that she was his wife and she was there to surprise him, thus she asked if they could let her in. She even dropped hints for them to give them some private time. The staff nodded knowingly, and even looked a little embarrassed. Yue had also asked for some sake which she quickly took it in before she changed her mind. As much as she was certain about this, she needed courage. Her feet took her stealthily past his king-size futon bed, to the open-air onsen, where she saw him.
