Cameron POV
I helped my mother put the groceries in the fridge "So that's Calvin huh?" She said. I nodded "Yep." I said. She glances over her shoulder "Cameron, I'm going to completely be honest with you. He looks like a nice boy, but I don't think he's the type you want to be around." She said. I raise my eyebrow "What?" I say. She sighs "I think he's a bad influence." She said. I groaned "Why does everyone think that?" I ask "You, Brenna...Dad. The only one he likes him is Clarke!" I say. My mother steps closer to me and puts her hands on my cheeks "Honey, I just want what's best for you. I want you to be happy." She said. I smile "I know, Mom. Calvin is a great guy, sure he has his ups and downs, but, he's my friend." I tell her. She removes her hands from my cheeks "Was he the one who encouraged you to drink at that party?" She asks. I sigh "He wasn't the only one, everyone else was wasted." I tell her. She runs her hand through her hair "How many times have I told you to not get intimidated by group pressure?" She asks. I groan "Mom, I don't need to hear this speech all over again." I tell her.The front door suddenly closes with a loud slam. My mother jumps "What was that?" She asks as she lies her hand on her chest feeling her heartbeat. I sigh "Brenna." I tell her. She frowns "Brenna? Why would she leave without saying anything?" she asks. I sit down on the countertop "Brenna and I fought. She said these awful things about Calvin and I send her away." I say quietly. My mother turns to face me "You kicked her out?" "That's what I said!" I tell her. She glares at me angry "How could you do that? She was trying to protect you." She says. I chuckle "Protect me? From Calvin? Calvin isn't a bad influence." I tell her. I saw her bite her bottom lip softly "He isn't." I tell her. She sighs "Cameron, Honey, I just want to prevent you from some things that you will regret in the future." She says. I jump off the countertop "You don't even know him!" I say "You've always told me to never judge a book by his cover, now you're doing it yourself." I say. I leave the kitchen "Cameron!" My mother calls after me. I run into my room and jump onto my bed. I wrap my arms around my pillow "What's wrong with everyone these days?" I whisper.
*The Next Day*
I open my locker. Yes, I am back in school, I just can't get Brenna out of my mind. I texted her this morning asking her if she got home safe. She hasn't replied yet. She's probably angry with me, it's that or her phone died. Maybe I shouldn't have kicked her out, not like this. It was just one argument. I sighed and put my books into my bag. I saw someone walking up behind me in the corner of my eyes. I close my locker and turn around. Brody stood in front of me "You're back." He said, "Great." "Good morning to you too," I said and tried to walk away. He pulls me back and puts his hand next to my head on my locker "Don't even try." He said. I raised my eyebrow "Try what?" I ask him. He had an angry expression on his face "You are trying to walk away." He said. I chuckled "I am trying to get to class." I tell him. He pushes me against my locker "I don't think so. You're not going anywhere because you and I are going to have a little chat." He said. He puts his other hand on my locker, trapping me "Did you have fun yesterday?" He asks. I raise my eyebrow "What?" "I know you were faking. You weren't sick, you were just trying to get Calvin to worry about you all the time." He said. I chuckle "I don't know what you're talking about. I wasn't feeling very well yesterday, so my mom told me to stay home." I tell him.
He chuckles "Taking orders from Mommy now huh? That's just pathetic." He said. I push him off slightly "What the hell is your problem, man?" I ask him. His facial expression changed once again "You! You are my problem." He says. I frown "What did I do?" I ask him. He pushes me against the locker again "You're trying to claim Calvin." He said. I chuckle "Alright, I've heard a lot over the past few years but that's just crazy." I tell him. He didn't laugh "We both know it's true. You're trying to claim him, well news flash, I've been his best friend for nine years now and I won't let a brat like you come between the two of us." He tells me. I tried to push him away "I am not trying to claim him!" I tell him. He sighs "Whatever, I just need you to stay away from him." He says. I laugh "He's my friend, you can't ask me to stay away from him." "And yet I am still asking." He says.
