"We have something to ask you," Biana told Grady Edaline—while they were grooming the horse—from behind the gate.
Grady sighed. "If you're going to ask about going to see a concert then—"
"No it's not that," Biana said. "It's totally different...kind of,"
Both of Sophie's parents looked intrigued and they listened as Biana explained.
"Well, every summer my family goes on a trip to Hawaii for three weeks. So I thought, since me and Sophie have become really good friends, and if it was okay with you, she could come with us. And you don't even have to worry about safety because there will be three chaperones watching out for Me, Sophie, and Fitz."
"There will?" Sophie asked, not having any clue as to who the third chaperone would be.
"Yes," Biana said with a smile. "Alvar will be there—he goes on every trip with us, and he's over twenty-one. So that means he can legally adopt a child, have an adult license, he can wield a gun, he can buy weed in Colorado, he can drink, gamble, and..."
She trailed off when she saw the panicked look of Sophie's face. "—Not that he would actually do all of that," Biana said, trying to fix her mistake. "But he could, if he wanted to—but he's not going to."
Grady and Edaline didn't exactly look comforted by Biana's reassurances, but Edaline decided to ask Biana a smart question.
"Do your parents know about your plan?" She blinked at Biana like she was a disappointing Happy Meal toy.
"Not yet," Biana said. "But once you two give your consent, then I'll ask them. I know they'll say yes—they both love Sophie."
It was quiet for a second before Grady shifted his attention to Sophie. "You seem rather quiet kiddo—what do you think about the plan?"
Sophie had no idea why, but suddenly her face felt very hot. "Oh! Um...I think it's a great plan. I've never been overseas before, so it could be fun."
Grady and Edaline shared at look before Grady sighed. "We're going to invite your parents over for dinner and talk about it,"
"Sounds good to me," Biana said. "But it has to be before next Sunday, because that's when we're leaving,"
"Maybe tomorrow," Grady said.
But Sophie immediately shot the idea down. "No, it can't be tomorrow!" She practically yelled.
Everyone stared at Sophie like she'd lost her mind, but when she made eye-contact with Edaline, she seemed to understand.
"I think we should do it the day after tomorrow," Edaline said, looping her arm through Grady's. "After all, we don't want to sound too eager—and Thursdays are wonderful days for dinners."
Grady nodded. "Alright, then tell your parents your plan, and then tell them we'd like them over for dinner Thursday night to talk about it."
Biana nodded. "Got it boss," She pulled out her phone and started to rapidly text while Grady looked confused about being called 'boss'.
As Biana was texting, Edaline pulled Sophie to the side and asked, "Why can't we have the dinner on Wednesday?"
Sophie's face turned red, but she knew she could tell her mom anything. "Well...Keefe's parents are getting a divorce and his mom is leaving to go to Boston tomorrow and I feel like I need to be there for him."
