It was Wednesday and Fitz had told her he had a surprise for her that afternoon. So Sophie got dressed in a t-shirt and a pair of shorts, and met Fitz downstairs.
"Are you ready?" He asked her as they walked out the door.
"Yep," Sophie said. "Where're we going?"
"I told you," Fitz said as they got in the car. "It's a surprise,"
Sophie rolled her eyes before they drove away from the house and down different roads. It wasn't like Sophie didn't like surprises—in fact, sometimes she did, but sometimes she didn't. Hawaii was not a good place for surprises because Sophie had never been here.
But Fitz wouldn't take anywhere she didn't like, so she needed to stop worrying.
After a few minutes' drive, Fitz parked the car and they got out and Sophie saw that they were surrounded by trees.
"Are we...going on a hike?" She asked, suddenly getting very excited.
Fitz nodded, taking her hand as they walked toward a path.
"Where're we hiking to?" She asked.
Fitz chuckled. "I told you, it's a surprise,"
Sophie sighed but still had fun talking to Fitz during the walk. But they had to stop when they reached a small river.
"We have to cross it," Fitz told her, stepping into the water. Then he held out his hand to help her into the water.
Sophie decided to get out of the water quickly, because she hadn't dressed for sloshing through rivers. But she got used to it when they had to cross many other rivers to get to their destination. It took them fifteen minutes and tons of rivers to cross to finally get where they were going, but it was definitely all worth it.
In front of them was a fifty-foot waterfall that was the prettiest thing Sophie had ever seen. It looked so beautiful and calm—even though the water was moving super-fast.
"It's beautiful," Sophie said, smiling at the waterfall.
Fitz nodded, also looking at it. "It's called the Lulumahu Waterfall—and that," He pointed to the river it dropped into. "Is the Nu'uanu Reservoir,"
Sophie nodded. "Did you know that off the top of your head, or...?"
They both laughed. "No," Fitz said. "I actually did some research before coming here because it wouldn't be a very good surprise if I didn't know what I was doing,"
Sophie laughed, nodding. "Well thank you—I love the surprise."
Fitz smiled. "It's not over yet,"
He grabbed her hand and brought her into the river. They walked up-stream onto a ton of slippery rocks. And if Fitz hadn't been there, Sophie would have fallen and broken something.
They climbed on the rocks until they were right in front of the waterfall, and Sophie definitely got wet. But it didn't bother her that much; it was actually really fun and she couldn't help but laugh the whole time.
Sophie and Fitz stared up at the beautiful falling water for a while before Sophie glanced at Fitz and said, "I dare you to drink it," She nodded to the waterfall.
"But doesn't it have germs in it?" Fitz asked, peering at the water.
Sophie shrugged. "I read somewhere that when it falls, the rocks stir it and it sort of purifies it,"
