Hayden's POV:

I finally got better, and Nate was insisting I take him back. He didn't know why I couldn't . Today was the day of our concert, and I couldn't be more nervous. I pulled on a white long sleeved button up with a black collar, black skinny jeans, black allstar hightops, and I brush my hair before putting it in a bow. I do simple makeup before grabbing my backpack and running downstairs. Sam has me take his car today.

"When is Nate gonna know?"

"He's not, Sam. He can find out by himself."

"Okay."

I look down. We pull up to the school, and Johnson walks over. He smiles and pulls me to him. I smile back at him, and see Nate walk over.

"Jack, kiss me."

He sees Nate, and kisses me. I smile into kiss.

"Fucking bitch."

I'm pulled from Jack and Nate looks furious.

"Dude!", Jack says.

"You're such a slut, Hayden. You think this okay for revenge? Acting like a little whore in front of everyone."

"Nate", Sam says.

"Sorry that I protected my heart, Nate", I whisper pushing past him.

"What heart?", he laughs.

I gasp. Running inside.

"Hayden!", Jack calls.

Gilinsky pulls me aside.

"Hayden, are you okay?"

"Why would you even care, Jack? You were right, absolutely no one can love me. After this I'm just done."

I go to leave.

"Hold up, Hayden. What did Nate say?"

"It doesn't matter, Jack."

"Yes it does!"

"I'm a whore, and a slut and I'm not good enough! Okay! You guys broke my shell and I want to to just break myself. Okay? Just leave me alone", I whisper the last part before leaving.

Nate's POV:

"How could you do that, Nate?", Sam says.

"She lead me on", he says.

"No she didn't! She's been rejecting you because she didn't want you to know she's dating your best friend. She wants you to earn her trust and this isn't how. She still loves you! Not Jack and we know that!"

"How can she still love me?"

"I don't know, Nate. I think she shouldn't but she does."

That's when they hear Gilinsky and Hayden talking. She walks away and Jack looks at them. Motioning them over.

"You broke what was left of her heart, Nate. What little you didn't break", he says.

"I didn't mean to-"

"It doesn't matter, Maloley. She's quitting after the concert tonight. She's doing homeschool. Maybe even moving in with her dad's new wife."

Nate walks away from them talking and sees her waiting for the choir teacher. They have a concert during school today and one tonight.

"Hayden", he says looking at her, "Don't quit your solo."

"Why not, Nate? No one here likes me, and I seemed to forget that."

"I was wrong. My jealousy took over. You are the only thing I want, and to see you look over and then kiss Jack broke my heart."

"You broke mine more."

"I know, and I wish I didn't. But you worked for that solo, and you're gonna perform."

"Okay", she whispers.

Nate wraps his arms around her, and she returns the hug. Nate let's go. Letting her go into the room. She needs the most practice so she's missing her classes today for it.

Hayden's POV:

"I fall asleep by the telephone
It's 2 O'clock and I'm waiting up alone
Tell me where have you been?
I found a note with another name
You blow a kiss, but it just don't feel the same
Cause I can feel that you're gone

I can't bite my tongue forever
While you try to play it cool
You can hide behind your stories
But don't take me for a fool

You can tell me that there's nobody else
(But I feel it)
You can tell me that you're home by yourself
(But I see it)
You can look into my eyes and pretend all you want
But I know, I know
Your love is just a lie
(Lie)
It's nothing but a lie
(Lie)

You look so innocent
But the guilt in your voice gives you away
Yeah you know what I mean
How does it feel when you kiss when you know that i trust you
And do you think about me when he fucks you?
Could you be more obscene?

So don't try to say you're sorry
Or try to make it right
Don't waste your breath because it's too late, it's too late.

You can tell me that there's nobody else
(But I feel it)
You can tell me that you're home by yourself
(But I see it)
You can look into my eyes and pretend all you want
But I know, I know,
Your love is just a lie
(Lie)
It's nothing but a lie
(Lie)
You're nothing but a lie

You can tell me that there's nobody else
(But I feel it)
You can tell me that you're home by yourself
(But I see it)
You can look into my eyes and pretend all you want
But I know, I know
Your love is just a lie
(Lie)
I know you're nothing but a lie
(Lie)
Lie
(Lie)
Lie
You're nothing but a lie
Lie

Your love is just a lie"

"Good. The concert is soon, are you ready?"

"Yes."

I run to my spot in between Cathy and Johnson. We go up on stage and the entire school is there watching us. We go through all our pop songs, including Jack and Jack's. It's my turn. I walk down and up to the middle microphone. The sound guy nods and I sing my song again.

•••

School passed by quickly before the concert tonight. Something didn't feel right. I look at Jack.

"Nate's gone", Jack says.

"He quit choir after the concert. So you didn't have to see him."
