"Mel, come on!" May called from my living room. I took once last look in the mirror, bottling my nerves and a deep breath. I felt my nerves pour out along with the warm air, preparing myself for what was supposed to be the best night of my life.

"I'm coming!" I yelled down hastily before grabbing my purse from my dresser and heading down the stairs.  I stumbled slightly in the extremely tall heels I was wearing, clutching the handrail to stay stable. I heard a chuckle from the bottom of the staircase and as I looked down, I saw Brie, hair braided. She was wearing a gorgeous, strapless, sapphire, tight fitted dress which matched her figure perfectly.

"Woah!" I exclaimed and she took a moment to look me up and down.

"Woah yourself. You look hot, girl." She said, raising her eyebrows slightly. I walked down the stairs so that I was on the last step, leaning over the rail to talk to her.

"You doubted me?" I asked sarcastically, causing her to roll her eyes.

"Alright, come on. Get your clumsy ass into the kitchen..." She murmured, tugging me slightly. As she did so, I tripped over the last step, my heel breaking as I hit the floor face first. I could hear Brie laughing behind me.

"Let's get you some lower heels, yeah?" She said between laughs. I frowned at her and sighed slowly, cursing my idiocy.

Thalia's POV

I was stood in the kitchen, my feet shifting back and forth nervously. Where was she?

"So... Thalia, what're you planning to do tonight?" Mel's sister said sceptically, raising her eyebrows at me. I turn to her in surprise, my breath catching.

"Um... Have a good time... I guess..." I stammered nervously, most definitely not expecting this from the girl. Ali narrowed her eyebrows, glancing towards her mother.

"What do you think?" She whispered, making it obvious to me what she was saying. Her mother rolled her eyes, grinning.

"I think Melody is in good hands..." She said, smiling at the little girl.  Ali looked unconvinced, still staring at me from above her cute glasses, which were oddly large for her small face. At that moment I couldn't help thinking... she's so much like the girl I love.

"Okay! We're coming!" I heard Brie squeal from the other room. In response to this, I felt my shoulders broaden and my stance rise a little; In the corner of my periphery, I saw Melody's mom smile. The girls walked in and my whole world came crashing down. In a good way- if there is a good way for your world to crash down... I had heard from May that she had spent an hour choosing a perfect dress and I couldn't help but agree. It was perfect- she was perfect.

She was wearing a beautiful, pale, peach dress which flowed at the bottom. It was made of a silky fabric which was coated by a layer of mesh and right at the bottom were delicate embroideries of winding petals. She looked beyond beautiful- she was breath-taking. I bit my lip, finally looking up at her, locking our gazes.

"Hey..." I murmured stupidly. Hey? It was the only thing I could force out of my mouth, I was honestly speechless. And it seemed- so was the other girl- she was looking me up and down, her mouth very obviously hanging open. Brie broke the silence,

"You know, you'd think that when you got together that you would stop checking each other out but actually, you just do it more obviously now!" She exclaimed, running over to where Taylor was stood, wearing a navy blazer and tie matched with a white shirt.

"Hey..." Melody finally said back, causing me to bite down on my lip a little harder. I smile sheepishly and hold out a hand for her to take. She did and I pulled her towards me, spinning her around as I do so.

"You look..." I began before I was interrupted by the other girl.

"Hot?"

"Hot and... so so beautiful..." I confirmed, wrapping her arms around my waist.

"You... you're..." She said, trailing off.

"Mmm?" I muttered in her ear however, she didn't answer, having pulled away from me instead.

Mel's POV

She... she was stunning. I don't know if there was a word for it... She's beguiling, enchanting... pulchritudinous. And I couldn't help but stare. She was wearing, a light grey blazer on top of a white shirt with the collar upturned. Her pants were also grey and flared at the bottom. I'd never even considered that she might wear a blazer but she had and she looked beautiful. I think I was more attracted to her then than I had ever been.

She murmured in my ear, sending shivers down my spine and I was just enjoying being in her embrace until I realised that we were surrounded by people. I prised myself reluctantly from her delicate hold, glancing around the room. She seemed to have the same realisation right then as she let out a faint 'oh'.

"Melody you look beautiful," my father said from the corner of the room. He had insisted that he see me off and me being me, I couldn't say no.

"Thank you..." I murmured, smiling over at him sheepishly. I didn't know how to act around him, even now. He was slowly adjusting to me being with Thalia and although I did understand that it was difficult for him, sometimes I just wished that he could deal with it. I know that sounds cruel but... if I loved her, why couldn't he?

There was then an abrupt knock at the door and May swung it open to reveal Eddie and Gideon both dressed in suits, grinning devilishly.

"Hiya... Woah..." Both boys eyes widened as they glanced around the room, "You all look amazing..." Gideon said, resulting in Eddie punching him on the shoulder. Gideon just glanced down at the boy.

"You look gorgeous..." He murmured, placing a soft kiss on the brunettes' forehead. Eddie's tanned skin seemed to light up as the other boy did so, a blush crawling onto his cheeks. May rolled her eyes at their interaction, tugging them both inside the room.

"Picture time!" She squealed and everyone let out a moan. It seemed my mother was prepared though as she instantly pulled her phone from her pocket.

After what seemed like ten minutes of unnecessary posing, I turned to my mom.

"Can we go now?" I moaned and she just shook her head slightly.

"There's one more surprise. They should be arriving in a minute..." She said suspiciously, winking at me.

"They?" I asked and in that one second, as if fate had aligned, I heard a car pull up to the drive. Silence enveloped the room as everyone waited for the visitors to enter the door which was currently still open from the last visit. Three silhouetted figures walked through the doorway who are immediately recognised by Thalia and me.

"Vici, Andrew, Holland... what are you doing here, I thought you said you couldn't make it..." My girlfriend exclaimed as the little boy instantly ran over to hug her.

"You really thought we'd miss your prom?" Vici said matter-of-factly, "In fact, we actually bought a plus one..." She trailed off however it didn't matter as the remainder of the sentence was revealed when the fourth figure walked into the room.

Their resemblance was uncanny. Thalia had her smile, her hair, not her eyes though, they must have been her fathers. As I watched their two gazes connect, I saw the shock but also pure happiness on both of their faces. Thalia wasn't entirely ready to see her mom again, she'd told me that and yet, it seemed that family is a bond more important than that. Sometimes you weren't ready, probably often. But that didn't make this any less special.

"Mom..." Thalia whispered and before I knew it, the two were in each other's arms. The world had torn them apart but love had led them back together.
