Chapter 4: Hurdles

Flynn's PoV

Umalis na rin kaagad si Duke nang mai-tour na siya ni Rome. Oo, si Rome lang.

Hindi na ako sumama dahil na-blangko ang isip ko sa sinabi ni Duke kanina. Sinabi ko na lang kay Rome na kailangan kong tingnan ang patient's record ng i-susurgery kuno ko.

Naalala ko na naman ang pinag-usapan naming dalawa kanina. Geez. Kahit pa ganoon lang 'yon, marriage is still marriage.

*Flashback

"You've brought this onto yourself. Now, you have no choice but to be the one to marry me. That's your price to pay."

Kahit na pangalawang beses ko na itong narinig mula sa kaniya, hindi pa rin talaga nasisink-in ng maayos yung mga salita niya.

Ako? Bride niya?

"Look. I know you might be thinking, 'I can't marry a man I just met' or other girly things like that. But just so you know, I also can't just marry a stranger."

"Ayun naman pala, eh. Bakit ako pa tinatanong mo?"

"I don't want commitments. Like I said, I don't have a choice but to marry someone because I can't have my mother annoying me all the time to get married, just because I'm going to be 30 soon."

Napabuntong-hininga ako ulit. Kung hindi commitment ang hanap niya, ako siguro ang pinaka-probable person na madaling asawahin pero hindi magkaka-feelings sa kaniya.

"Don't worry. It's just a marriage of convenience. We can annul after two years, if that's what you'd like. But not a year after marriage, my mom will just bother me more. I'll just let her believe that marriage isn't fit for someone like me."

Napairap ako dahil sa huling sinabi niya. But what really bothers me is how he describe marriage.

Sorry, but as a real fanatic of love, he underestimated marriage too much. I just think it's so sacred to just be contracted like that.

"I-I can't."

"Well, that's not your call to make. I've already decided what to do to you, so don't cause me anymore problems like making me think of another way to tie you up. You've made this mess. Now fix it."

Sinamaan ko siya ng tingin dahil sa naging tugon niya sa sinabi ko. Well, like he said, I can't marry a man I just met. I can't be like Anna, who agreed to marriage just like that.

"Eh, ano pang silbi na sinabi mo sa akin yan? Alam mo naman siguro na tatanggi ako, base sa ugali ko. Edi sana pinapirma mo na lang ako habang lasing ako."

"Nope. That's too much work."

Medyo na-frustrate naman ako sa kaniya kaya napasabunot na ako sa buhok ko. Akala niya ba gusto kong gawin niya talaga 'yon sa akin? Why does this guy make things so hard for me?

Kinalma ko muna ang sarili ko bago ulit tumingin sa malalamig niyang mata. Well, jerk, that's not scaring this girl now.

"Then the answer is never. I admit, I was too much when I did that, and I really felt guilty. Pero kung ang kapalit ay ikakasal ako, then thank you for taking the guilt away, you jerk," gigil na sagot ko sa kaniya while clenching my fists.

"Well, I just gave you the easiest way to pay me, and you rejected it. Expect the worst to come."
