Chapter 30: One Last Time

Flynn's PoV

"You're not getting any better."

After a month of thorough therapies, this is what Doc May told me. I bit my lip and looked away to avoid her gaze, because I'm at fault why it had to stay like that.

"Why Doc? What's the matter?"

Kunot noong tanong ni Rome na nakaupo sa katapat kong silya. Bumuntong-hininga si Doc May at narinig ko ang pag-lipat niya ng pahina ng resulta ko sa mga test.

"Hindi naman natin napapaliit ang tumor mo, Mrs. Tan. Base sa test results, your tumor is still in its original size. Ibig sabihin, lahat ng therapy na nagawa natin, sa halip na mapaliit nito ang tumor, it just maintained its size."

"How's it now?"

"The thing is, her tumor just became malignant. Thankfully, it still isn't at that point where the cells have spread out, so that's a good thing. But I suggest that she relieve all possible things that might trigger its growth."

Napahigit naman ako sa hininga ko dahil sa narinig. I knew I was getting worse. I knew that this time it's not the same as before.

The whole month was like hell to me. Mas napadalas ang headaches, nausea and even my vision became worse. I even collapse at some times, but I always end up losing consciousness in my bed.

My memory is also starting to fade away. Nalaman ko lang na nag-sisimula na akong makalimot nang mapansin kong hindi ko na kilala ang ilan sa mga naging kasama ko sa trabaho, pati na rin sa bahay.

I knew I'm tearing myself apart, pero heto pa rin ako, pinag-iisipan pa rin ang mga sinabi ni Rome sa akin. I still don't want to go. But the situation I'm in is forcing me to.

"Take your meds regularly, Arianna. It's either you're not taking your meds regularly or you are still prone to stress. Please, help yourself."

"I know, Doc. I understand."

Tumango naman muli si Doc May at saka sinarado ang folder ng case ko. Pinag-salikop niya ang mga kamay niya at saka muling itinitig sa akin ang mga mata niya.

"Let's just do our best to make this tumor small. I don't want to see you being eaten by this cancerous lump. Fight it, Arianna."

"Yes, Doc. I will." I answered and gave her a small smile. Doc May returned that small smile to me bago niya isineryosong muli ang mukha niya at tiningnan si Rome.

"I know you've been friends for a long time already. Help her recover. Or tell Mr. Tan about this situation. Mahirap ang push and pull na kaso niya. If she decides to give this all up, the lump will eat her system."

Nanatili lang akong nakayuko habang pinag-sasabihan ni Doc May si Rome. Kahit siya ay alam na ayaw kong sabihin kay Duke ang nararansan ko ngayon. I'm putting them in a lot of pressure, really.

"We've considered telling this to him. Pero ayaw talaga nitong isa na 'to. I'll do my best to keep her from any stressful situation. I hope she listens this time."

"Okay. We're done with today's session. You can go now."

Tumayo na ako sa kinauupuan ko at tahimik na lumabas sa opisina ni Doc. Si Rome naman ay nag-paalam muna kay Doctora bago siya sumunod sa akin palabas.

I knew I was getting worse. Pero sa sobrang kapabayaan ko, I ended up getting a malignant case.

"We need to talk."

"About what?"

Rome licked his lips and bit it. Inilagay niya sa bulsa ang kaniyang mga kamay bago siya bumuntong-hininga.
