VICTORIA'S POV

I gripped my steering wheel tighter as I thought about the conversation we had back at my house. Blake refused to make eye contact with me the entire time we were there. I could feel he wanted to hug and comfort me, but something was holding him back.

The tension in the car was extremely strong, the only one who seemed to be happy was Eddie. His face was slightly red and he kept quietly giggling into his hand.

It was like he didn't even notice how everyone was so rigid. For some reason even Greyson and Sophia were acting strangely. But my focus wasn't on them it was on Blake who was just staring out the window.

I pulled into the slightly dark school parking lot and parked in the spot near everyone's car. When no one got out I decided to announce that we were at the school.

"Everyone get out....except for Blake."

Blake didn't even glance my way at that statement, instead, he unbuckled his seat belt and crossed his arms, glaring slightly at the dashboard.

Sophia was the first one to get out of her trance, she looked at me through the rearview mirror and smiled. I didn't even bother to put on a fake smile as I watched her nudge Eddie and Greyson to get out.

"Thank you, for the ride Victoria!" Sophia stated with a bright smile, but surprisingly this one didn't reach her eyes. Greyson just nodded his head at me while Eddie giggled and waved.

I watched quietly as the three of them parted ways, Eddie and Greyson getting into their cars and Sophia leaving on a bright yellow bike.

I made a mental note to talk to Sophia later, even though I couldn't tell her the truth I still had to tell her I was leaving.

Sighing slightly, I turned to Blake after I unbuckled my seat belt. I expected him to at least turn to me, but he didn't. "Blake...look at me." It took a bit of coaxing, but when he did look at me I smiled.

A real one.

The setting sun entered into the car and shined on Blake's face causing his brown eyes to glow......like raw honey. We stared at each other as the sun shined through the car windows.

Blake smiled softly as he brought his hand to my face, rubbing his thumb lightly across my cheek. Even though he was smiling at me, his eyes shined with sadness....reflecting mine.

"One thing you always talked about were my eyes, Blake. You know they weren't always blue."

"What does this have to do with anything?" Blake questioned as he moved that hand that was on my face to hold my hand instead.

"Just listen...please." Blake nodded so I continued. "My eyes were originally purple. I was the only one in my family with purple eyes, I remember my parents would tease me all the time about them."

I laughed quietly as I thought about them. The images of that dreadful day flashed through my mind as I began to tell Blake my story.

——flashback——

The rich scent of Crème brûlée filled my nostrils as I watched my mom caramelize the top of the sweet dessert. My mouth watered at the sight and I had to stop myself from drooling,

"Mommy?"

"Oui, beauté. (Yes, gorgeous.)" I smiled at the endearing term as I pushed my short black hair behind my hair. I fiddled with my small fingers as I looked at my mother who was waiting for my question.

"Je veux apprendre à cuisiner comme toi! (I want to learn how to cook just like you!)" My mom smiled at my excitement as she kissed the top of my head.
