EDDIE'S POV

I fixed my glasses with one hand as I used the other hand to pull into my driveway. The smile had yet to leave my face ever since Bradlee and I confessed to each other, to say my face hurt would be an understatement but I could care less.

This was the happiest I had been all month and nothing could ruin that not even my mom who was surprisingly home early.

I turned off the car and stepped out, making my way to the front door. I took in a deep breath before entering. "Eddie, is that you?" My mom called from the living room. I planned on ignoring her, but what good would that do me.

"Yes, mom who else would it be." I heard a quiet sigh escape her lips as light footsteps hit the floor quietly heading towards me.

My mom came into view, she had on her usual pants suit and a slick ponytail. Her usual glowing face looked pale and stressed like she had been thinking a lot. I wanted to ask her what was wrong, but I stopped myself.

"Eddie...I need to speak with you."

I bit my lip and shook my head trying to think of an excuse that I could use to get her to leave me alone. I didn't know what she wanted to talk about and frankly, I didn't want to know ever.

"Sorry, mom I just have a lot of homework that I need to finish.....can we just talk about this later?" I questioned as I started to move towards the stairs.

"Eddie this won't take long." My mom insisted. I wanted to yell at her. Why after all these weeks you finally wanted to talk to me? Why now...when I finally felt good about myself?

"If this is about me skipping school...I'm sorry I'm such a disappointment. You can ground me for a week, a month, whatever it's fine by me. Can I go now?"

"You skipped school?"

"No." My mom gave me a look and I looked at my feet.

"Yes."

"Okay...I'm going to ignore that...this time. But what I wanted to talk to you about is different Edward. I need you to listen to me." I gulped once I heard her use my real name.

She's serious.

I nodded my head and let her lead me into the living room. She sat me down, while she took a seat next to me, turning towards me. I sat there fiddling with my fingers as my mom tried to gather her thoughts.

"You know I love you right?" My mom started, she didn't let me reply before continuing. "I know you and I haven't always been that close...it was always you and your dad."

"Until he left," I said as I looked up at my mom's teary expression.

"Yeah, until he left...Eddie, I need to apologize to you, about a lot of things. The biggest one being about our relationship in general. I've been so unfair to you Eddie. I've made you feel like I didn't love you, like you were a disappointment to me."

My mother grabbed my hands squeezing them gently, "You will never be a disappointment to me Edward. Ever. You are the greatest thing that has happened to me and I will always be proud of you. I'm sorry I don't show that to you often, but I will do better because I want to do better for you Edward."
