Life is full of surprises but not in mine.
My life had become one of mindless hard work and dedication. Ruthless ambition and cunning. In the world of business you have to be prepared to pull the punches that no one else will- in order to get things done and most importantly to get what you want.

Occasionally though life throws in a few curve balls as if to remind you of man's fallible nature. Where other people hesitate, i know how to recognise opportunities for what they really are: gold dust. Sometimes you have to grit your teeth and throw yourself off a building to see if you can catch the wind and glide. The higher the risk, the greater the payoff.

Sitting across from me is an IT analyst; confident and self assured. Probably just a little younger than me, but a completly different breed. Clever with excellent manners. Privileged. I can read him immediately; it's a well made suit and smart tie. Not the type that exclusive wealth buys but high end enough to speak of comfortable wealth. A wedding ring and smart watch, newly married, a few white hairs at his temple, possibly baby at home. No hunger or air of silent desperation, which you get from new money- no overt rediculous promises, just clean data and diagnostics and clearly laid out solution options with caveats and costs outlined. A calm confidence that tells me I could trust him to get the job done without fuss.

The problem is I dont trust anyone- not really. So a meeting like this gives me a chance to look at the man behind the project. He seems the solid type I concede and I am rarely wrong.

from the periphery of my vision a movement across the restaurant catches my eye. perhaps its me, but there is a distinct feeling of suspension. Like time slows down: Conversations stop mid sentence, laughter ceases, even the sound of stunted cutlery is noticable. The hustle and bustle of the room seems to dissipate.
A woman dressed in a cream pant suit is moving across the floor. Leaving. There is something graceful and demur about her that i notice immediately. Classic features that set her apart straight away. The crep suit is cut to perfection, curved in all the right places, satin lapels. svelte. A cream off the shoulder jumper: Bold and beautiful. It makes me smile. And legs that go on forever. But its her face that makes me catch my breath; shoulder length straight, thick black hair that frames her face. Classic but arresting features: defined cheek bones, full lips, skin glowing . . . A natural beauty. . . And Sage green eyes that remind you of the cloudy sea.....

Eyes that could haunt your dreams for years.
