I choked on my steak. Out of the blue Calvin asked that one question I've been dreading to answer. Well, one of the many questions.
"Calm down. Here, drink some water." Calvin said offering me a glass of water as he patted my back
I took the glass of water gulping it down. Once my glass was empty, I placed it aside and took deep breaths. He not only startled me with the question but almost triggered me.
"Why are you asking that right now?" I said dabbing my mouth with a napkin
"Because I really want some sort of answer. I'm not going to ask you about the other thing but this is the least that I deserve, I suppose." Calvin sighed
"I know, it's just really hard to talk about." I said biting my lips.
"I'm not going to judge you, if that's what you're worried about. Just talk to me. How are we supposed to find the right way on this old road that we are taking, if you can't even talk to me and tell me about your worries?" He said taking my hand in his interwining our fingers.
"I usually have night terrors when I sleep. It is normal for me to have them but they're terrifying. I guess, that is why they are called night terrors. Most nights when I fall asleep, I would wake up a while later, drenched in sweat, sometimes even screaming but that was never the worst of it." I started struggling to go on
"You can stop if you want to. Don't force yourself if it's so hard for you to speak about it." Calvin said caressing the back of my hand with his thumb
"I- I want to. Whenever I fell back asleep, they would never stop or disappear, there were rare days when I got lucky. They just would continue where they stopped like a movie being played again after it was paused. It just never seems to end." I choked on a sob
"It's alright." Calvin said looking at me sympathetically
"I realised after a while that whenever I slept beside someone or with someone in the room then I wouldn't get them. So, whenever I have night terrors, sometimes I would sleep with my sister. A few times, I would sneak out of my house, sneak in Tarun's and sleep beside him but for most part, I'll just try to fall back asleep myself but not be able to get any sleep and end waking up after a while." I finished
I was holding in tears, trying really hard not to cry. No, I can't cry here, not in this damn restaurant, no in front of so many people and definitely not in front of Calvin.
A rouge tear rolled down my cheek. I harshly wiped it off. I took a deep breath and looked at Calvin, only to find him looking at me with adoration in his eyes and a gentle smile on his face.
"Why are you smiling?" I asked, my voice breaking a little
"Because I'm just starting to realise that the girl I have liked for so long is one of the strongest girls I've ever met." Calvin replied
"Really?" I asked looking at him hopefully, hoping he didn't lie
"Really, really." Calvin nodded
Calvin lifted my hands and brought it closer to his lips, planting a kiss at the back of it, all the while not breaking an eye contact with me. I blushed and looked away.
Calvin payed the bills and we left. Calvin was being a gentleman all day today, though I appreciated everything he did, I hope we are not going to be going to another five star restaurant for a date. He is for my eyes only! I truly enjoyed today.
On the way back, we talked about a lot of things. From our favourite books, movies to our future plans. It was like conversation flowed through one after another, not a single dull moment.
"Really? You want to be the CEO your own business empire?" Calvin asked surprise
"Yes, I would like to have my own business empire. Not just sticking to one thing though. I would like to have a business empire that branches off into everything I like and love." I said wistfully
"We will competitors then unless you of course join your business with mine." Calvin commented
"I'd rather be your competitor. I want to be in the top by myself." I said
"It will be fun competing with you in business." Calvin smiled
"It will be. I will have my business empire at 19." I said determined
"That's too soon, don't you think? You're going to turn 18 pretty soon then you'll have what like a year to create a whole business empire. That's just like trying to do the impossible." Calvin said
"Trying to make impossible, possible is what I love to do. It keeps things interesting." I smirked
"I hope you get what you want when you want it." Calvin smiled
We reached Tarun's place. Calvin parked the car in front of the front doors of Tarun's parent's mansion. We went in to find Ishal and Tarun both sitting on couch waiting for us.
Uh-oh.
This is does not give me a good feeling. Why doesn't this give me a good feeling?
Should we make a run for it? We should, shouldn't we?
The two of them ushered us in and made us sit on the couch while they paced back and forth in front of us. Whenever one of us tried to get up then they would give us a glare making us sit back down.
This went on for next 10 minutes where there was complete silence. I started fidgeting in my place, Calvin finally broke the silence.
"What do you want? The two of us are tired and would like to rest preferably for a little while before I drop her off at her place." Calvin said exasperated
"How was your date?" Tarun asked
"It was so good. He bought me a painting and then gave me the idea of stuffing him in a burlap sack on our next date so no one will look at him. We had a lot of fun and we talked a lot about each other. It was so fun." I gushed to Tarun
"Really? Tell me everything. From the beginning." Tarun urged sitting beside me
"Well, first we went to this..." I started
Ishal cut me off by clearing his throat. He proceeded to give Tarun a pointed glare that basically said that we can discuss this later, important questions first.
"Oh right, sorry." Tarun said standing in front of us again
"What was that make out session - you had before leaving - about?" Ishal asked
"It was..." I started hoping to wave it off like it was nothing
"We know it was not nothing so, don't even try to wave it off as it wasn't a big deal." Tarun said giving me a pointed look
I shut my mouth instantly. I gulped looking at Calvin only to find him looking at me with the same scared expression as me.
What's today? Spill you secrets day or something.
