Ever since they came back from space, life was not the same at the Shinsengumi. The Commander and Vice Commander who had grown extremely paranoid issued a long list of measures to restrict movement of high level officers, which magically only applied to her and not them. They also checked up on (Y/N) frequently which made her feel like a prisoner.
And she was not going to tolerate that.
Carefully calculating and taking the chance when it arose, she jumped over the fence and run to their designated meeting place. She knew he would be waiting for her there, under the cherry tree.
As she reached the place and saw him, tear swell up in her lonely eyes and she sobbed silently. He noticed her presence and was quickly bursted into tear too:
"(Y/NNNNN)!!!"
"YAMAZAKI-NIIIII!!!"
The Shinsengumi duo dashed to each other's side, stammering through their tear:
"I don't know why we have to do this. Why can't we meet normally?"
"They believe every time we are together, bad lucks happen so they stop us at all costs." Yamazaki nervously recalled.
That was one of the ridiculous rules by Kondo-san which others just somehow conformed to. The Secretary and the Inspector must not venture together under any circumstances so basically the only place they could meet was the Shinsengumi base. Despite that, every time they met, either Kondo-san, or Hijikata-san, or Sougo would spring out of nowhere and interrogate them extensively.
"I say this whole organisation is bad luck already." (Y/N) pouted and furrowed her eyebrows "How do they expect us to follow this career unharmed and unscathed?"
"They want you unharmed and unscathed." Yamazaki chuckled "I understand that though. They are just very protective of you."
"That's why I didn't object half of the rules they set." She glanced to Yamazaki and smiled playfully "But I say you're my good luck, Yamazaki-nii. Every time we are together, we always sort the mess out."
Yamazki blushed deeply and touched the back of his head. It was something he did not hear so often. He sloppily leaned back as (Y/N) got closer, her eyes lit up with expectation:
"Yamazaki-nii, you—"
"STOP RIGHT THERE MS. SECRETARY!!!" A sudden scream came from behind which startled both of them "CAUGHT YOU RED HAND! Now you cannot deny it anymore YOU MAN-EATER!"
Yamazaki was staggered to find the fluffy white head of a certain Yorozuya boss got in between them. Gintoki poked his chest and scowled angrily:
"Beware! The next thing you know you will fall for her while she blabbers about loving someone else!"
"We're not like that!" (Y/N) yelped and leaned left and right to see Yamazaki but was blocked by the other guy "That doesn't even count as flirting!"
"Yes it does! You said something similar to me before!" Gintoki placed his hand on her head to keep the girl in place while she squeaked like a chipmunk.
"When? What did I say?"
"Nine chapters ago! You said I was your beacon, but it was a trick to make me spill out Zura's location!" He yelled loudly and squeezed her head.
"Oh, that..." She blinked her eyes and replied in all honestly "No. It was not flirting, Gin-san. I really mean that. And you still are..."
Her lips spread into an innocent smile:
