Chapter 6

I walk into our street, and see the driveway empty. Quietly, I unlock the front door and creep up the stairs. Our house is pretty nice, from the outside, you would think Blake is a saint for taking in all these foster kids and raising them in such a lavish area. Inside, it's a whole new story.

There are 5 bedrooms upstairs. Two one each side, and one at the end of the hallway, the master bedroom (aka the Devil's room). The twins, Noah and Nathan, have the first room on the left. The room across from the twins is occupied by Macy and Matthew. Me and Alon have the rooms closest to Blake, me being on the right, and Alon on the left. And there are 2 bathrooms. One near the stairs on the left wall, and one next to my room at the end.

I go into the twins' room to see all the kids in there, playing. They look up to see me, and I'm immediately attacked by Macy. She's 3, the youngest here. The twins are 7, and Matthew is 11. You see, Macy and Matthew are actually siblings, so are the twins (obviously). Alon and I are just really close, having been in similar situations, we learned to help each other.

"Hello my lovelies!" I greet them. I get a chorus of greetings in response. I look down to see a bundle of black hair still cradling my feet, and go to pick Macy up. She stares at me with her piercing green eyes and smiles, pulling at the necklace around my neck.

"Can we go somewhere?" Noah and Nathan ask at the same time. "I mean, it's a Friday and we didn't have school. We're soooo bored." Noah says.

I just smile in response, since that was already my plan. "Ice cream?" I ask.

My response is all the boys sprinting out the door and down the stairs. I look at Macy and she starts laughing along with me.

"Don't forget your coats boys!" I shout. "It's cold and might rain tonight."

I hear the stampede of feet running back up the stairs as everyone rushes to get their coats so we can leave. Walking into my room, I quickly put my bag away and grab Macy's "outside" bag that I always keep ready. Glancing at my reflection, I realize I look awful with a hoodie that's way too big for me (stolen from Alon), and my eyes dull and tired. Why on earth would Mr. Ortega cast me with all the other beauties as cast members? I don't even deserve to be in the same room as them, let alone on camera with them.

"Can we please leave sometime this year?" Nathan shouts from downstairs. I walk down and glare at him, playfully.

"Stay in my sight." I tell the boys, mainly the twins, as I lock the door and we walk onto the sidewalk. The twins start walking ahead, while I walk next to Matthew with Macy in my arms.
"How was work?" Matt asks me.

"I actually didn't go," I tell him with a smile. He whips his head up to look at me, surprised, because I never miss a shift.

"But you were gone all day." He says.

"Yes, it was quite an adventurous day," I say grinning. I tell him about my whole encounter with Mr. Ortega, and what happened. Somewhere during the story, the twins also joined us, listening.

"No way." Matt says, staring at me as if he were seeing me for the first time. And then the questions start. All the boys speaking at the same time, asking questions about anything and everything.

As I finish answering some of their questions, we walk up to the ice cream shop. We enter, and I immediately order, knowing what everyone wants already.

"Could I please get one scoop of cookies and cream, small. One scoop of mint chocolate chip, small. One scoop of strawberry swirl, small. One scoop of rocky road, small. And one scoop of chocolate fudge, small, please. Thank you!" I tell the sales attendant.

"That'll be $10.75" he tells me. I pay and each of the kids take their bowl of ice cream. I take my cookies and cream, and we all walk outside, to sit in the grass by the fountain.

It's quiet for a little while, as everyone finishes eating. Once we're done, the boys run up and start playing soccer with the soccer ball in Macy's bag. I just sit quietly, feeding Macy the last bits of her ice cream while she babbles on about what she saw on Wild Kratts this afternoon.

As it gets darker, I get up and call the boys to come over. Our walk back home is filled with arguments from the twins on who won the game. Matt just listens to them, grinning and shaking his head, as they start making up stories about what happened.

When we get closer to the house, the chatter automatically dies down. I see the lights on inside, and Blake's car in the driveway. I pass Macy over to Matt, and tell him to take the twins upstairs quietly. Unlocking the door, I hear 2 voices in the kitchen, arguing. I head over while the kids sneak upstairs and shut their doors.

I enter the kitchen to see Alon and Blake arguing. Blake looks livid, and clearly drunk. Again. He looks to me and snarls, "where were you."

I wince a little, nervous, and look to Alon for help. He just shakes his head a little, warning me to tread lightly.

"I just took the kids for a walk, the weather isn't going to be pleasant this weekend, so I thought they could use some fresh air today." I say, as calmly as I can.

Blake just stares at me for a minute, grunts, and walks out the front door. I hear the car engine roar, and then diminish as he leaves the neighborhood. Looking back at Alon, I see his head in his hands. I wish he would relax a little. If only he didn't have to be so stressed all the time.

A/N: Hello lovelies! It was so cold yesterday! Apparently it might snow for me this week! I'm excited. Anyways, what'd you think of this chapter? It was a little more descriptive, don't you think? Not much action, but I wanted to start introducing the "family".
Also, I am not from Canada, so I wasn't sure how much the ice cream was actually supposed to cost. Do I have any Canadian people who would like to share?
Well, that's all for today. Please vote and comment!
Have a wonderful day! Hugs and kisses.
