Exams Pt 2

Don't let me go.

Aizawa is right.

I should put my hero work first.

But every time I think of it,

I cannot fathom the thought of losing Shoto.

I cannot.

Don't let me go.

With the wind clawing at my face, burning my eyes, I race up higher and higher on Todoroki's giant ice sculpture, the blades beneath me burning a white line of fire into my feet. My trajectory is laid in front of me, traced out in shining, clear lines. Every move I make is sprawled out across the ice path, and I make sure to execute them to the exact degree— every blink, ever shift of my hand, every tap of my feet is wound up in me like a tight string, waiting to be released.

One.

In a flash, one part of the ice cliff is slashed off, landing below Aizawa. I can almost feel his burning eyes searching for my form, but I hide behind the ice, careful to not show any part of my body.

Two.

Another spiral of ice slams down to Aizawa, beside his left arm. Again and again, I cut and slash and strike the ice tower, slowly shaving it down, chipping the ice spiral away from the giant. Shoto should have already left by now, but I don't dare look down. By the loud crunch of ice landing on the ground, and a frustrated groan from Aizawa, I know it has landed near Aizawa's right. Only a few more to go, and the shards will create a complete prison.

Nine.

I wait for the sound of the last shard to fall into place. A crunching sound confirms my success. I speed back towards the ground, irritably wondering when Shoto will reach the gate.

Not a moment later, a large bell rings, and I take a sigh of relief.

We won.

I fly down to where Aizawa is still trapped and I break through the ice, searching for his form. When he steps out of the cage with a disgruntled look, I bow.

"Thank you for your guidance, Aizawa-sensei."

He groans, his hair back to normal and his eyes painfully bloodshot. He dusts off some ice chips from his sleeve and nods towards my salute, gesturing me to come closer.

"Remember what I told you, Hebinoya.

"The reason why I paired you with Todoroki is because of the intimate relationship you share. One of the hardest things as a hero is to put your duties over your loved ones, but it is a sacrifice you must be willing to make."
