It had been a week since Dylan, Ellie, Dina and Tommy had returned to Jackson. Dylan, Maddie and her brother, Scott, had moved into Joel's house, whilst Dina and Ellie occupied the twins' place. During the week, Dylan and Maddie had grown close. She had become his rock, his shoulder to cry on. She had become everything he needed in this hard, sad time.
Talia and Jesse's funeral had been planned and was set to began at noon. Dylan was sat on the couch with his head in his hands, when Maddie and Scott entered the room dressed in black.

"Dylan, sweetheart...Are you ready to go? I think the whole town has come out to pay their respects." Maddie informed.
Dylan looked to Maddie with tears in his eyes.

"I don't think I can do this. I can't do this again. I've lost too many people in my life. Saying goodbye...I...I can't." Dylan said as tears began to fall down his face.
Maddie moved over to sit beside Dylan on the couch and pulled him in for a hug. Maddie looked back to her brother and nodded towards him, telling him to go on without her.

"It's okay, D. I know what it's like, saying goodbye can be tough. Knowing that you're never going to see the ones you love again. But I realised after some time, that they are in a better place. They no longer have to worry about the infected or about getting infected. They haven't got a care in the world now. They are free from this apocalyptic world, but they are always there watching over us. And most importantly, they are in here." Maddie informed as she laid her hand on Dylan's chest, "Always warming our hearts with joy and happiness, remembering your time together."
